they're cheap
that's for sure
In the price range, you can't beat 'em
but
the paint sucked (surface rust in under a year, it's dry as a bone out here, nothing rusts)
the suspension was never right, it was always rode like something was broken (and multiple shops looked for it, nothing ever came up)
it was cheap
personal use, it would be fine
commercial use, I'd drop more money and go better. (or buy used for same money)
On a related issue: my M-7040 is 24' long with FEL (bucket curled down) and MX-8 mounted on back. Trailer is only 23' long. Looks like I'll have to set the FEL bucket up on the bulkhead and not up against it, like I'd like to. Gave seller deposit, can't really find a better deal and it'll carry my LB115, too.
I bought a new one approx. 25 years ago. I bought the 12 ton 24' backhoe pro model. I primarily hauled a JD450C crawler loader behind my dump truck.
It worked fine for many years. I was doing short hauls around 20 miles. It came with pintle hitch, the 4 boogie axles, and 12 ply donut wheels and tires. We know of all the downsides but for what I needed at the time it did the job. I think I gave $3200 at that time for a new one. I live about 100 miles from the factory so I picked it up from the factory with my pickup. When it came time to replace the floor a few years ago I flipped the trailer over removed the 4 short axles and found a good deal on 3 7k axles and put them on. Still a very useful asset in our fleet. Now most work we do is done with large skid steers. I still pull it behind a dump truck but do have a ball hitch that bolts to the trailer so I can pull with a pickup.
