I need some help on my Dad's PB-210E leaf blower.

It is a mid 1980's model and has always started easily and run well until this season.

He is using 50:1 mix per the book.

This year , starting was more difficult and it would run pretty good with some hesitation on acceleration from idle to full throttle but would die after running a while. Good running time varied a lot. I tried adjusting the high and low needles as I have in the past but had little luck.

Adjusting the low needle seemed to affect the idle rpm. Never had that happen before so I though that there may be a pinhole in the diaphragm or something like that.

I replaced the fuel filter, check valve , fuel lines and cleaned the carb and installed a carb kit.I ran the low and high needles all the way closed and backed out 2 turns. It started right up and with a little adjusting on the high needle ran full blast really smooth.

I cannot get it to idle at a constant rpm or accelerate smoothly.

When you let off the throttle, the engine tends to stay at a fairly high idle and the low mix seems to affect the idle.

There is also some gas in the air filter chamber around the carb. Maybe just excess fuel ?

I don't see how the carb could be leaking. The only place I could see is maybe where the carb mounts. There was not a gasket on it and none shown on the parts list.

Anyone have any ideas on adjust this thing so it runs smoothly again ?

Dad has had it so long and it has always done so well that I hate to give up on it.

Please help !

Thanks !!

No one has replied on this yet? It sounds like you have done a lot of the right things. And those carb to cylinder seals do go bad. You might pull the carb off and clean the two surfaces real good. I would use some high heat permatex maybe. You could have cracked insulation from the spark plug wire also. A lot of those beast in that vintage it is the carb. There is a ultra fine screen between the diaphragm that gets clogged up. It is hard to see. Also pinhole leaks in the fuel lines or if it has a fuel bulb those go bad also.

Some of the 2 stroke engines have spark arrestors, [screen in or wrapped around the exhaust pipe], and get clogged up with carbon. Try removing and or cleaning to see if it affects operation. I removed all mine on the back pack blowers. Filter in gas tank should be replaced also.

Ethanol in today's gas has dissolved one or more seals in the carb.

Sorry for the tardy reply, came across this thread just today. I second bad fuel/ethanol causing problems with the carburetor.

I have a Echo PB 700 with similar symptoms. Cleaned fuel bowl out, new filters, gas/air. Good spark. Removed muffler, spark arrestor. Nothing helped.

This thing would start OK, idle OK, but with any blip of the throttle it would want to die. Figured it was a carburetor issue after ruling everything else out.

Found a great website, www.Partstree.com that has exploded diagrams of the motors of every handheld tool on earth, and then some. Very easy to use your manufacturer and model #s to find exactly what you need. Long story short, I ordered a new carburetor for this blower and it runs like new again. It only cost around $50. I since have ordered quite a bit more from them, very happy with their service.

I started ordering from them when I was given a hard time about not having model #s from my Echo blower/vac when I needed parts from my local dealer. It is so old the model # is scuffed off, I inherited it when I bought my new property. Very easy to find parts on Partstree even when I sometimes do not know the model #.

I have since come to learn that many repair shops also just replace the carburetor rather than rebuild it as it is cheaper, easier (2 allen screws hold mine in place), and more reliable a fix.
