When do you think we will see a e-hydro trans in the 5xxx series?

Seriously.....Never.

IH had large frame hydro's back in the day....they were NOT bad machines...for all intents & purposes, they were actually very good and probably ahead of their time, but just never caught on market wise which is why IH dropped them and every other MFG took note.....Even today, Kubota doesnt offer a hydro in the M series...You would think of ALL mfg's out there, Kubota who pratically put CUT's and Utility tractors on the map would have hydro transmisisons in the M Series....

The mentality of "it needs to be gear drive" persists even here on TBN...how many posts do we see saying what boils down to "I woulda gotten a cab machine, but I didnt want a hydro because a gear drive is better"? To be fair, I was thinking the same things back when I was shopping.....BUT the eHydro has made me a believer.

I think the next game changer for 5x and larger machines will be the CVT...

hydro trans and manueverability go hand and hand . when you get to that size tractor it doesnt make since to have hydro . imho . now the varible speed that jd offers in the 6000 series is another matter all together .

Ease of operation and manueverability go hand in hand and are important no matter how small or large your tractor is. A 5xxx tractor is not a large tractor but a small to medium sized utility tractor, which generally performs loader tasks and misc. chores.

The industry is changing and I expect Deere and others will have hydro tractors in the 50 to 100 hp range before too long.

We MAY see it, but I'll say without a doubt that Deere will NOT be the first with it...Deere isnt an innovator....They never have been. Having some friends/family in the tractor industry on both the supply & demand side. I will say that this is the first time I've heard people talk favorably about a hydro "larger" machine...I chalk that up to the audience here on TBN...

How is the industry changing? I dont see TOO much change when it comes to transmissions...not on this level anyways. I dont see it as a TECHNICAL problem or so to put a hydro in a larger machine, but a emotional/people problem.

As long as they are still offering and selling PR Transmissions in compacts, I dont see them EVER offering a hydro in a "full size". Used to be gear transmission CUT's sold because they were generally cheaper (like the 790, etc) but now with the 3038e and such, the whole financial aspect goes out the door. They sell because people want them.

I don't expect a hydro in a 5xxx series (or larger machines) anytime soon. No real need for it, and the 5 to 10 percent HP/Torque loss that is no problem with a residential or light landscaping user (refering to most of us) can be quite detrimental to an agricultural user who need as much HP/Torque on the ground as he can get.
Also, I'd suggest most tractors of that class are used for field work or as stationary (but moblie) power units that don't do a lot of back and forth movement, so there's no real advantage to spending the extra dollars for hydro.

I think it's coming sooner rather than later.

If the Agricultural economic picture had remained close to the performance situation that was seen during the past 5 years - with commodity prices at all time highs - the manufacturers would be more strongly inclined to "branch out" into new, innovative markets.

Additionally, everything I've read that past several year's in various Ag publications illustrate the changing face of Agriculture with more and more small farms and greater emphasis on CSA's (community supported agriculture), organic production methods and "high brow" crop types (wines, fruits, berries, etc.).

A 5000 series machine with eHydro could fit as the "main" workhorse for a small farmer.

Older, retiree's that have taken up a 2nd career as "hobby farmer" and women owner-operator's might be more inclined to look very favorably at a cabbed, eHydro 55hp - 85hp tractor.

I know one in Alaska that would....

Dave,
On this thread alone are Davinia, AKfish and myself who would all buy a 5000 or 6000 series with EHydro. People who have them like them enough to buy them larger if they are made available. I am expecting the E Hydro to take over the smaller tractors that it is offered in now, I suspect manual transmissions will be dropped.

I have been amazed at the number of employees I have had that can't drive a standard transmission in a truck. Most people wan't the easy to operate automatics and hydro transmissions today.

Oh, I know it....You can count me as one of those people too. I'd take a 5x eHydro any day...same for a 6x... As for a 7x30 and 8x30, well I'd need to test em out first.

BUT, what I was trying to say is that we here on TBN are CUT people...yeah, some of us have bigger tractors then others. But safe to say this isnt a farming forum. Coming from a large farm, I can say that I dunno if I'd want a hydro in the potato fields..... my UIL (uncle in law :D) has a 7930 w/IVT & ILS and and lets just say its a dream come true... If I needed a tractor of that size here on my 2 Acres, guaranteed it would be IVT...

AKFish...Your right, BUT along with those high commodity prices came high input costs. The price for spray materials, fertlizer, fuel, etc were never higher. But lets disregard the input costs...for the type of people that commoodity prices affect in a big way (Commercial/Full Time Farmers)...they probably wont be in the market for a 50hp eHydro machine. They're looking for 150 horse machines to do work in the fields and 40 horse machines to work around the shop.

With all this talk of IVT.....has anybody heard anything real world about the NH 8N with the CVT? Theres a 50 horse machine with a CVT.....Only thing I've heard about it was she's an expensive date...albeit a good looker...

Yes.... but the waiting list for machines ~$200,000 was more than 2 years out. Somebody was MAKING - MONEY - and SPENDING it.

Now, I've got a very good friend with 83 acres and about 10 acres of that in grapes. Some other wine folk's dropped in for a wine tasting and casually asked if they'd take a cool $1,000,000 for the place?!!? (I think he paid around $400K.)

They've now got the place on the market for $1.4mil.

He got a cabbed Kubota for his main tractor.

Point is; you don't have to farm 1,000 - 10,000 acres anymore to have the $$$$ to buy a cabbed, IVT, CVT, eHydro tractor.
