I've been all around the block, made a full circle back to these two tractor manufacturers. Obviously the 4320 being a bit larger and more powerful, 4120 is closer in ponies, my thinking of having a bit more HP to move that larger frame around easier.
Needless to say, I have RED in my blood and that old wonderful term, FARMALL, imbedded in me from my grandfather's years on the old farm in LaSalle, MI. I just feel this unit(DX) is a better bang for the buck!
I'm comfortable with the dealers, just have to be comfortable with my decision!
Any insight is appreciated!
Thanks for your time gents!

Rob. I got my DX45 in early september and already have 180+ hrs on it. I am a landscaper and had been looking to replace my Kubota L series for 3 years. For comparision I had been looking at the JD110 TLB but could not justify the $.

The 110 vs the DX45 are similar in HP. Loader capasity, & the Bradco 509 Backhoe are equlivant in power +or-. For the $'s you will be very happy with a well equiped Farmall.

Thanks! I know its hard for me to justify the cost of the JD also. I'm leaning towards RED, not to mention I actually like it a little better for some small reasons: size, layout of controls are a plus. My wife and I will tossing the green and red sided coin within the next few days. Wonder If I can slip a double red sided one in without her noticing?
Not likely!
I'll keep you posted as to our decision!
Thanks again for the input!

Hello, from reading the spec sheet at Case-IH it looks like the LX116 loader will lift 2,327lbs. This is more than the DX40 at 1,540lbs. I was wondering if you could measure the diameter of your cylinders, and let me know. This same loader is available on the New Holland brand, but the lifting loads for the TC40/45 are the same. I like that TLB DX45 you have, and am thinking about the same arrangement. Thanks for you time, and info. Great looking TLB. IH3444

IH3444, I think the spec sheet must have a typographical error. That 2,327 lb is the capacity of the 3PH at 24 inches from the lift arm ball sockets. An honest number for the LX116 on a DX40/45 is 2000 lb at the bucket pivot point and more like 1600 lb to full height in the bucket. The numbers vary according to the weight of the bucket, type of bucket, and the working height for the load. For example, you can lift and move a heavier load than you can raise to the full height of the loader.

I can personally attest to the NH 16LA loader being able to lift a 4x5 round bale from the top of a two-high load on a flatbed trailer. I used a bale spear and was on hard, flat ground. My guess is the bale weighed no more than about 1400 lb at most, probably more like 1200 lb.

The big advantage I see on the New Holland is the torque produced by the much larger, naturally aspirated, 4 cyl, 135 cu in. engine. If I'm not mistaken, the JD gets its HP rating from being a turbo engine. Nothing wrong with that, but a real apples to apples comparison is hard between a turbo engine and the natually aspirated one. The turbo probably gets a little more out of the same amount of fuel, so that comes down on the side of the JD.

Actually, with the 4000-Twenty series the JD 4320 has a larger engine than the DX45 - 149 cu in vs. 135 cu in. Add in the turbo and the resulting torque rise and the JD 4320 likely has far more peak torque than the DX45. (couldn't find the specs at the moment)

I was very interested in the DX45 before I got my JD4710 (I like red as well) but the local dealer was useless. They way it seemed spec wise - I positioned the large frame JD's between the Class III and Class IV Case-NH units. Makes it tough to directly compare either NH class to the JDs, not quite apples-to-apples, but it gives a nice range of choices.

Tim, thanks for correcting my error. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I thought I had read that the 4320 was a smaller cu in. displacement, but I should have checked my facts before making that statement.

BTW: What is the displacement of your 4710?

The 4710 had the largest displacement of the old Ten series - 135 cu in. which matched up to the DX45. They did take a good-sized jump up on the newer Twenty series (now they match the displacement of the Kubota L5030 for example).

Tim, I was very interested in the 4510 and 4710 early-on when looking for a new tractor. I also looked at the L4610 Kubota. The 5030 wasn't out yet. As it turned out, the NH dealer was closest to me and made the best deal. I was also very impressed with the controls layout and features of the NH TC45D. I think if all prices were very close, I'd have a very tough time making a decision today. I'm sure Rob is having a tough time also.
