I am considering a "professional" 7ft King Kutter Land Plane for approx $1k. It weights about 550lbs. Does anyone have this land plane. How does it compare to the more expensive makes?

I have always thought that the King Kutter series was on the lower end of the quality and reliability scale. Would I be better served with another brand or will this be sufficient? I would like it to last 10 years grading about 1/2 mile of gravel road.

One last question...Does this model have replaceable cutting teeth?

From your description it sounds light to me, I would rather a 7' weigh in about 800 lbs +. If a landplane is too light it jumps over imbedded rocks instead of digging them out. If you wan't to buy one instead of building your own look into the Woods and Cammond landplanes. both of these are available with rippers and replaceable grader blades.

I have a 72" Befco that works great. The only thing im not totally happy with is how fast the replaceable ripper teeth and lower skid shoes wear out.

Trust me when I say you get what you pay for. They all work, just some better than others and usually the heavier it is the better that it works. ;)
