Dump trailer opinions

I’m looking at purchasing a 7x14 bumper pull dump trailer. I’m in central NC. I saw a local dealer had the below brands and found all of them to be similar enough it’s making the decision difficult for me, or else I just need to choose one.

Lamar - Best overall fit and finish, comes with rear stabilizer jacks, has toolbox storage, don’t like lippert axles, $11,500

PJ - Good overall fit and finish but not as good as others, Dexter axles, some previous qc issues I’ve seen. $11,500

Load Trail - Again overall good fit and finish, cheap coupler, heavy built looking trailer, $11,500

Maxx-D - Looks nice, but nothing special compared to other brands, $12,500

Delco - Never heard of this brand, dealer seems to think it’s the best cross of value and heavy build, has separate hitch and bed frame instead of 1pc I beam, $11,200

IronBull - Meh, looks decent but again separate hitch and bed frame, cheap coupler, fit and finish looks nice, $11,600

So as you can see all are really similar to each other, only beating each other out by a small amount.

Im down to either Load Trail or Lamar, the Lamar has nicest fit and finish of all of them but I don’t like Lippert axles. Load trail looks next best in line for similar price.

Any opinion on brand or price from your experience?

Diamond C probably has the nicest dump and equipment trailers. Made in USA, huge V tongue storage box, sacrificial board brackets, and optional 7 gauge construction are all nice features. However, I’m sure they cost more than the options you listed above.

We've had a PJ dual axle 7K (5x10) for about 5 years. No problems with it, but they probably should have used a longer hose for the lift cylinder as it gets pulled tight (no slack left) at full lift. No visible rust or damage to the paint, but I do see what look like rusty water stains on the box side behind the wheels. I did have to replace a spring in the 2" bulldog coupler after it rusted.

Mechanically fine, the hydraulics still work as designed and the original battery is still holding up. Early on I added a 10w solar panel for battery tending & a DIY wireless remote (based on a $28 winch control & a couple of diodes), both of which are still working well. I also added a roll up tarp, using a kit from Buyer's Products (5'x14' tarp kit for D5 trailers). It was a proper fit for the mounts that were already factory installed on the PJ.

I have a loadtrail 14' dump in gooseneck with 2 7k drop axles and really like it I think it's a 2018 it's holding up really well I put a kubota b26 or a cat 259d in it. I just added a tilt trailer and with loadtrail again. I had looked at alot of other trailer brands but for the money and quality they it seemed best value. Midsota would be 2nd choice. Both are made in USA.
I do find the price increase in last 2 years is crazy.

I have a PJ trailer which I like a lot and would consider another one.

I had massive issues with my first DEC207 trailer that took 8 months to remedy with a new trailer finally. No dealer in my area didn’t help much. New trailer is much better, but still has a few quirks.

I wouldn’t hesitate if you have a dealer in your area. I didn’t and purchased my trailer 7hrs away, leading to warranty headaches.

D/C makes fine equipment but like all manufactures today with short staff, quality control is hard to maintain. I would say any of the trailers mentioned would be fine. I have Loadtrail, PJ, Lamar and D/C, I like them all. Pic of my D/C.

Kaufman makes a good trailer at an exceptional price. They crank out a couple hundred trailer per month down there And didnt slow down much for covid.

D/C makes a nice dump but very spendy.

A few things to keep in mind with dumps...tarp kit, ramps, bed/sides gauge. 10 gauge should be minimum with 7 gauge for demolition concrete, asphalt or boulders. Axles....Dexter or Lippert are fine, be careful of the hybrid cheap ones. Hydraulics, power up and down is good. Gravity down is slow, especially in cold weather. Telescopic cylinders are powerful but slow, especially the first larger stage. Scissors are good but also slow. Twin or single cylinders are okay for homeowner use.
