Dump trailer doesn't have enough power

I have a dump trailer with a dumping capacity of 3000 lbs, the trailer is 3 yrs old,can I increase the dumping (weight)capacity of this trailer? It has a single cylinder,not a scizzor lift.

I have had a few times where it doesn't seem it by looking at the load but the pump/cylinder won't lift.

The trailer is very well built,I can post the manufacturer if needed, the trailer is a 6x10 deckover,double axle.

Dump trailer aren’t known for their strong dumping ability. Is it stalling the pump or hitting the relieve pressure?

Do you know what pressure the system is supposed to operate at? Have you checked to confirm that it is operating at that pressure.

to increase lift capacity you have to either increase system operating pressure if your existing components allow increased pressure or install a larger diameter cylinder. You would have to determine if your existing pump reservoir assembly has the fluid volume for a larger cylinder.

example: a 2” diameter bore cylinder has 3.14 square inch area times 1000 PSI = 3,140 lbs of lift.

A 1 3/4” bore has 2.4 square inch area times 1,000 PSI = 2,400 lbs of lift

^ and you'll have to be sure the larger cylinder will clear the frame. And of course, that the frame will stand up to the increase in forces.

Before you start changing things, check that your current system is operating up to spec.

I’m betting the pressure is low. Boosting pressure would be far easier then trying to fit a bigger cylinder in.

Mine is 14k lbs big tex. Pretty good trailer over all.

I can lift 6.5 ton if it isn't too far forward and that is it. Another 100 pounds and you are off loading with the x. I think it is by design. If it had the power to lift all the wet clay it would hold, it would break other stuff, possibly catastrophically.

They are slow and weak, but beat a shovel by a looooong ways.

It’s more the limits of the 12 volt setup. Dump trucks will dump anything no matter how overloaded and they don’t go around breaking.

From 10 years working on hay wagons, and watching my dump with an overload, I whole heartedly disagree that they will dump anything you can get on them.

I do agree the system they have is designed to lift up to spec and not an ounce more.

I said dump trucks not dump trailers. I’ve seen some ridiculous overloaded dump trucks and I’ve never seen one that wouldn’t dump. Dump trailers on the other hand are doing good to even dump the rated load.

We are a bunch of mean motor scooters and bad go-getters here at TBN but without laying eyes and hands on,you are asking us for the impossible. If we could all get around it with torches,welders and your pocketbook we would having you up and going in no time. You need to make certain (or hire someone to) everything is working to capacity before re-inventing it.
