Not exactly a tractor issue but I'm hopeful some of the knowledgeable people who view these threads might have an idea. I have a 1956 B-61X Mack Dump that has what I believe is the original hoist that was installed when the chassis was new. I replaced the body a couple of years ago with a new Galion but wanted to keep the hoist as it worked fine.
Issue is it leaks. These old units did not have a separate oil tank as they do today instead the hoist cyinder is very large and the fluid simply moves from end to end with in cylinder.
As ypu can see from picture, there is a large packing nut which I have tried to tighten without luck. It has been suggested that the end plate itself has a big gasket and that is my issue.
Any thoughts-leak is slight so it is difficult to spot as you clean everything off and it takes a while before I have a mess on the floor.
