drop gear box?

After installing a new front driveshaft on my YMR 2210D, I'm getting some binding which results in one front wheel dragging. Jacked up, one wheel rotating results in the other wheel rotating the opposite way in both 2x4 and 4x4. My understanding is that should only happen in 4x4.
Does this sound like a drop box shifter problem? I'm gonna drop the driveshaft to see what that does.
Any thoughts appreciated!

No that is normal and is the way the differential works. The only way to make both tires spin the same way when jacked up is to disable the differential action by locking the differential in the axle. Normally front axles on tractors do not have axle lockers, only the rear axle and then usually only temporarily with a foot pedal of some sort. The differential is still there whether or not the front axle is driven in 4WD.
Normally 4WD is really only 2WD unless you're traveling straight ahead and there is equal traction under the wheels. I have electrically operated selectable lock on demand differentials in both front and rear axles in my off road truck but not my tractor. The truck has true 4WD when I need it, all 4 tires turnin and burnin but that isn't very often and only for the most difficult off road obstacles. When I clear the obstacle I free up the axles to make steering easier and less stressful on the drive train.
