Driving with brakes locked

OK, I admit it, I sometimes forget to release the parking brake when using my 2910. That is probably the reason that it doesn't hold the tractor on inclines anymore. Is there an adjustment to tighten it up or have I cooked the brakes?

i don't know if u cooked the brakes or not, depends on how many times u forgot it, and how long u ran it that way. seems to me u should have felt that the tractor was not responding right with the brake on.

There is a section in your owners manual (page 56 in mine) that explains how to adjust the brakes. If you cannot find it or need addtional help I can look in the Work Shop Manual for more inforamtion.

Frank,Maybe the brakes weren't adjusted correctly to start with so I didn't notice. They hold OK if I am pushing them.David

Well I'll admit I've done that a time or two and with the awsome power my BX2200 has,/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif it can be hard to tell, especially if I have the throttle set very high.
I have thought of wiring a brake light or even a buzzer to sound when both brake and hydrostat are engaged and engine is running.

Yep, I used to run my John Deere 650 with the brakes locked quite often. I usually could'nt tell untill I pressed on the clutch and the tractor stopped instead of coasting.

Now, I have a NH TC30 hydro and I still forget the brakes are locked. The hydro emits a loud scream when I abuse it this way and reminds me to unlock the brakes.

Oh yeah, on my JD650 I used to keep a small spring clamp on the parking brake lever. Whenever I applied the parking brake I would put the spring clamp on the gear shift knob to remind me to release the brakes.

I have this problem as well w/ my B7500D. When you are running at PTO RPMs you don't notice unless you go into reverse or you push in the clutch and you stop instantly.

I'm going to install a large high intensity LED on my dash that will flash when the ignition is on and the brake lock lever is down. If I put the LED near the tachometer I'll be sure to see it.

Hey Fella's, I did one better than that on Sunday. I put the tooth bar on my BX 2200 to pop some saplings and as I was driving to the edge of the hill to the bottom ground I decided to take a mug of ice water with me so I set the brakes and got my water.

Then I got back on the tractor and realized it didn't move very well and then I discovered I had set the brake. However, it still didn't want to move. I thought "Crap, the brakes are locked up". Then I realized the tooth bar was dug into the sod. So, I backed up to remove the teeth from the sod and raised the FEL and moved a few feet so I could stomp the sod back down to get rid of the evidence of my stupidity. Wish the wife hadn't seen me stomping the sod back down...... Almost got away with it....... Tom
