My B5100 has a driveline noise that seems to come from the front drive shaft. I have had this problem before in which the front drive shaft tube and rubber dust boot were slipping. This is the same noise I had previously, but the problem does not appear to be a slipping driveshaft tube. Any ideas out there?

Bill,

Can you describe the noise? Grinding? Rattling? Knocking?

Maybe this will help people think of something...

Bill:
Is everything tight on the driveshaft like u joints and are all the seals in place? Is there oil in the diff.?
Can you lift up the front and hear anything by turning things by hand?

We have noticed loud squealing noises from front drive B5100/B6100/B7100 models. Typically, the noise stems from a plastic bush which guides the inner end of the drive shaft to the front diff. The bush dries out and the resulting sound is a fierce squeal.

The fix is to lubricate the bush and shaft. We just force some grease between the shaft and bush.Access is through the hollow centre tunnel. You may need to loosen rubber hose which connects the drive shaft tube to allow the tube to slide back a bit, and up along the shaft. Normally we can fix them without dismantling the front drive.WD 40 spray also fixes it,but dries out fairly quickly.
