Tell me if I am crazy but I want to begin starting my pull behind mower with a drill.

I have had lots of problems with the pull start ... from broken ropes, broken springs, broken pawls, etc., etc., etc. It just isn't working properly.

Here is my problem. The engine is a Briggs 12.5 HP on an Agri-Fab pull behind. My current cordless drill (18 volt Makita) isn't quite strong enough to turn the engine over. Almost but not quite.

So, my question is whether anyone can recommend a drill powerful enough to turn the engine (corded or cordless) and whether this is a bad idea (pull my arm out?). I've used drills on regular push mowers but this engine is much bigger than those engines.

Any help is appreciated.

I used to use a drill on a 11 hp b&s engine on a JD 111. The electrics were fried on the tractor and when the battery would go dead and it didn't work to roll start it I used the drill. I was only able to use a corded drill cause the cordless didn't have enough power. I think it was a Milwaukee drill dad used for mixing mortar and drilling concrete. It had plenty of power.

Make sure the drill is turning the same direction as the motor and use a connection from the drill to the motor so when the motor starts it pops the drill off.
