Hello All

I have recently purchased a used John Deere 1050 and I'm having problems understanding why my 3 point hitch will not stay were I position it . It keeps drifting up or down when in mowing . I have played with some of the knobs under the set but I'm not sure if they are set right . The lift will stay all the way up or down it's just when I'm mowing when I have this problem . It also moves slowly up and down when I need to adjust to the terrain I'm mowing .
Can any one tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I am also wondering if it has a leak inside the hydraulics.
Is there any advise for me out there?

Thanks for any help

I had a 1050 which I sold several years ago. I recall that there were three places where adjustments to the 3ph were made. The first was a knob under the front of the seat which was to lock the 3ph in the up position for transport with and implement on the hitch. The normal position (unlocked) is to turn all the way counter clockwise. The next is a short lever under the seat. This controls the speed of drop of the 3ph based on the weight of the implement on the hitch. It can be set in any position of your choosing based on the weight of the implement. The last knob is the draft sencing lever behind the seat. It has a black knob and is used to control the hitch when using a land plow or other ground engaging implements. Based on the position set it allows the hitch to lift slightly under load to keep the tractor from bogging down in difficult soil conditions. This should be set in the off position which is all the way in one direction. You will know when it's on because the hitch will act erratically when raised and lowered. I rarely ever used this feature. Also check the 3ph control lever itself to make sure it has enough friction to stay where you set it while bouncing around mowing. See if you can find and operators manual also. I think you can still get one from Deere.

I'm not familiar with a 1050 but I'll bet the knob(parts key #1) adjusts the tension on the 3 pt control lever. As previously stated by Rick the lever requires some friction to hold it in it's set place.

Thank you for your help Rick and Jim .
I will look at that latter this week . I ran over a beaver stump when I was trying my tractor out on the first day and flatten the back tire . I'm hoping I can get the tire fixed this week and start mowing again . These beaver around here on the biggest nuisance. This makes the third tire I have flatten because of them. I can not get rid of them for more than a year or year and a half before a new family moves in .

Thanks again guys
Phil
