Went out to "The Farm" yesterday. Decided to put the little mule to work making a drainage trench on one field.:D

Mornin Egon,
Gee your field grass is the same color as mine ! :)

Looks like youve got a bucket full of mud ! Id say your workin the little guy pretty hard !

Are you doing this all with the FEL bucket or did you loosen up the ground with something else? I'm going to need to make some shallow ditches soon and was planning to do most of the work with a box blade, followed by sloping the sides with an angle blade. I was planning to use the FEL only for carting away dirt after it was loosened and piled up by the box blade.

That's a mighty fine trench you're digging there! What are you going to do with all that dirt that you are moving?

I'm just using the FEL.:D

I have lots of places I need dirt.:D

i see you first dug to relatively solid ground to work your way into the mud from there.. That reminds me of the time we buried a tractor in pig sh*t, the wheel loader driver didnt dare to get close, he first cleaned out all the mud untill the path he cut was getting close enough to hook on a chain...

And the frost is out of the ground. I did a bit of digging here this week and the frost is still down there about 6 inches from the top. Have to wait a few more days.

Mule seems to be doing a great job, guess it is the operator doing the great job.

Operator has a very weak mind and even weaker back!:D

I am also making a ditch. First I made several passes with subsoiler several inches apart to loosen soil and cut roots. Then I used shovel to remove loose dirt. At a few foot per hour with shovel five hundred plus feet was begining to look impossible (at 68 yo). IDEA! I used fel at right angle to ditch. Simply get edge straight down, push fel into subsoiler cut, curl and lift.
