This is what I use to keep leaves from getting into my Culverts and Drain Pipes and plugging them up.

If I had it to do over agan i would not have drilled the holes in the cap as the screening is plenty of opening into the pipe.

The screening is held in place by two large hose clamps one on each end of the screening.

I'm looking for ideas for cleaning out a 14" X 20' culvert. Sure don't want to dig it up. Keep thinking about some sort of roto-router driven off the tractor pto.

What is the culvert made out of?
Is it double wall smooth bore?

The state will clean out my smooth bore double wall plastic culvert if it gets plugged up.

klm,
Any chance of blasting it out with a water stream? I've got one too that needs cleaning. Luckily, I have a fire hydrant within fire hose distance but a tank truck could supply water too. I think a 3/4" to 1" dia sked 40 pvc pipe with a 45 degree and hose fitting on the end would allow one to rotate the stream in a desired direction. I'd make four 5ft screw-together "rigid hoses", start at the far end and blast away. I have a non-adjustable fire nozzle that fits on a garden hose that shoots a fairly powerful stream at our unregulated 80psi source. These nozzles are available at many hardware stores like Orchard Supply or ACE.

klm,
I had the same problem and posted here a couple years ago for solutions.
I had no water source near the plugged culvert, but I got the Fire department to come out and use their high pressure hose to un clog it. He got to it from both sides until he blew a hole through the clog. It was mostly sediment dirt, so once the hole was in it, the next rain opened it up again.

It's actually an old steam pipe, smooth sided about 1/4" steel. Never thought about asking the state/county or fire dept. Both good ideas, will give it a try. There is no water source nearby.
