If you can provide me with the length of the cable you need...and what specifcally is wrong with it....I'd be happy to find you the correct part number! There has never been a torch cable for the Powermax1000 that cost anywhere near $600! You must have an incoorect part number...or someone is gouging you on the price!

sorry, i have a cnc machine plasma system. so i cant just use it to cut a barrel (for instance). Everything i cut has to be able to fit on the 5'x10' flat table.

i need a hand torch cable but they run $600 for the hypertherm 1000

Greg....you are looking at torch assemblies.....which is the leads, torch, consumables....ready to plug into the torch and cut. If it is the torch leads that are needed (as you said in your earlier post)...they (as I said) are much less than $600. I have worked for Hypertherm for 35 years....I am aware of the costs!

There is a new torch called the Duramax....same torch used on the newer Powermax65 and 85. It is not a new version of the T60 torches, rather a complete new torch.

Jim, i have followed your posts on several sites for years, and you are the guru.

what i have now is the T60 machine torch with 50 foot leeds. What i want to add is the complete T60 hand torch system for hand cutting also. thus the 600+ prices i have been saying. i must have mistyped on the previous post, but what i was looking for was a HAND TORCH setup for my hypertherm1000.

I just read some stuff about the upgrade torch heads, and they do sound great.... but i cant justify spending that much $$$ at this time.

Then again, can JUST the head piece be replaced, or does the entire thing have to be replaced (hose & head, etc??? )

Those nozzles (some call them tips) are designed for handheld cutting with a plasma torch.....not necessarily for drag cutting as they are of an exposed nozzle design. Rather....the "castleations" on the face of the nozzle are to prevent an inexperienced operator from piercing plate with the nozzle pushed firmly against the plate.....causing loss of air flow...and internal arcing in the torch. These bumps allow air to escape...keeping the arcing outside the torch body.

These nozzles are copies of an old (over 30 year old) Hypertherm nozzle (as used in the Max40, Hypertherms first hand held plasma system) design. many of the low cost import plasma systems use parts very similar to these.

Jim Colt Hypertherm

Jim in fact, you are wrong on this. This is a blow back torch, which the Max 40 did not have...We've discussed this before...

Many other companies have nozzles similar to this. These are of trafimet design. Because someone has a design that "looks" similar does not mean they are copies. I suppose a Chevy is a copy of a Ford? Or vise versa? No, rather each is its own style and design, though I suppose if you told someone that had never seen a car before one was a copy of the other they'd be inclined to believe you....Hey look they both have wheels, a windshield, hey even they both have a steering wheel...By gosh, what is that? They both have seats...front and rear? :)

There are similarities in nearly all plasma torches...I could see a legitimate argument if you said they'd interchange...but they won't.

Thanks for the comments Mark.

As one of the original designers of the Max40, I do not need an education on it! In fact, the first nozzles that used "castleations" for drag cutting, it was in 1984....were on the original Max 40 torch designed from the ground up by Hypertherm....I was on the team and I have one of the original torches sitting here on my desk! I guess I was not clear that I was talking about the attributes of the nozzle that defined it for drag cutting. Clearly the parts in the picture would not fit in a Hypertherm Max40 torch.

Todays best drag cutting torches (over 30 amps) use an electrically isolated shield that double insulates the nozzle from the plate. These are used on both high frequency start as well as blowback start torches....and dramatically improve consumable life over the exposed nozzle designs.

Attached is a picture of one of the first 5 Max40 torches built for testing before the product was released in 1984-85. I just took this picture at my desk.....notice the castleations (looks like the top of a castle tower) that were designed in to allow for drag cutting. This nozzle was designed long before the Trafimet torch.....and has been copied by many.....in fact the newest Eastwood brand plasma can accept these original Hypertherm parts in their "new" torch design! Perhaps it was ahead of its time, eh Mark? If you go to this link (trafimet) and look at the nozzles available for Trafimet torches....there is one that even references a Hypertherm part number (020115) which is the nozzle part number for the original Max40 torch. The nozzle is copied, even the original manufacturers part number is used! Link: http://trafimetgroup.com/en/parts-f...bles/V031ZZ/plasma-tips/V033/plasma-tips.html

Best regards, Jim

I understand now Greg. There is a guy on another site that has a slightly used Powermax1250 hand torch (not sure of the lead length) that will work fine on your Powermax1000.....he is asking $250 for it. This is the T80 torch....which will plug and play fit in place of the T60.

To upgrade to the newer Duramax torch the whole torch and lead assembly is necessary.

Best regards, Jim Colt
