I am currently looking for a new tractor to replace my broke-down MF. I have my eyes on the L2800. The info sheets say that the draft control is an option on the L4400 but could it later be installed on the 2800 or is there possibly an aftermarket version out there?

I would also like to hear anybodys stories about the prices they paid. I'm looking at the L2800 w/FEL and R4's. I currently have all the implements I need but will later get a single bottom plow.

Thanks,
Steve

Draft control is like the factory type of remotes, no one makes them except the OEM. But, unlike the remotes there is no way to fabricate the the draft control. If you want draft, you have to get the factory setup. I am sure Kubota is like some of the other manufactures in that they more than likely have a kit that can be ordered. The kit for a compact tractor usually runs about $1000.

Did you use the draft on the MF? Many people don't use them to much if at all today for casual use. On large farms we see them but I'd wonder about the investment for you.

I like fishing to, it is a tough choice! I know I drive tractors better or at least I can always get some work done, can't always catch the fish I'm looking for. Ah, lets fish!

I like a tractor where draft control is not an option but comes with the tractor. Do I use mine? Sure do. I use it when plowing and pulling the field cultivator. Could I live without it? Yes. If you are not doing a lot of ground engaging work then why have it.

Thanks for quick replies. I'm not really sure what I want yet, just trying to figure things out.

Art, My MF didn't have the draft control. I tried my luck at leveling my yard after we moved in and seamed to just make matters worse. Same for the gravel road. Had read where the draft would help in this matter probably quicker than my trying to learn a technique. Guess it will just fall back to the old addage, practice makes perfect.

I will agree though that I can work the tractor a heck of a lot better than I can fish. Plus, the boss doesn't mind me slipping out on the tractor as much as she does in the boat. I would still much rather catch a big mouth than have to listen to one!! Sanity is solitude!

My L3130 doesn't have it...wish it did. I could use it when boxblading the driveway or discing the back pasture.

I'm not even sure it was an option on my unit, can't remember now. Regardless, they didn't have any on the lot and I had a trailer out front ready to load one up.

You can purchase a product called the Zane Thang. It was designed and sold by Zane Sherman to give position control to Ford 9N and 2N tractors and Ferguson TO models. I don't know if it can be converted to use on the model you are interested in but if you google Zane Thang you can find his site and ask.

With a cost of under $100 it may be an option.

You would be much better off with gauge wheels on a boxblade or scraper than draft control if you want to make a level yard or driveway. There are other techniques you can use to level dirt, as well. Draft control can make pulling a 3pt moldboard plow a little easier if the tractor is on the lower edge of weight and horspower, such as a 9n Ford and a 2 bottom. It does work well for some applications but for the work you are describing I don't think it will help you all that much.
