What if you used double the amount of power service by mistake and boosted the cetane up too much? Would the compression rate go up in the cylinders? Also when you buy winter blend fuel is that cetane boosted or is that just the addition of anti gel?? Thanks........

Probably not. I have accidently more than doubled the amount in my fuel with no noticable effects.

Winter blend fuel usually just has anti-gel additives. You can make you own winter blend by mixing 60% diesel with 40% kerosene. This is what all stations do in the fall to make their current underground supply winter blend. Now with ULSD coming this may not be happenig anymore unless the kerosene is also ULSD.

The ULSD we are making at the refinery I work for has been coming off the unit with a -30 degree F pour point. But we will still be adding a pour point improver to our premium diesel starting around the 15 of October.

Last jug I bought they gave the recommended rate in the instructions .... and then noted you could double it if you preferred. :D

But what if you doubled the already double rate by accident. Would it cause too high of compression??? Just curious...

Local Equipment Dealer has an older Rubber tire loader he uses for cleaning snow out of his lot and told me it was acting up a couple of years back and he dumped in a quart of Power Service and the Engine never ran so good (in the winter that is).
penokee :)

Cetane number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

<snip>Diesel engines run just fine with a CN between 45 to 50. There is no performance or emission advantage when the CN is raised past 50; after this point, the fuel's performance hits a plateau.
Diesel at the pump can be found in two CN ranges: 40-46 for regular diesel, and 45-50 for premium<snip>

I'd say, since the fuel performance hits a plateau, it's not going to cause extra high compression.

No, this will have zero effect on the compression in the cylinders, ie the compression ratio will remain exactly the same.

Also when you buy winter blend fuel is that cetane boosted or is that just the addition of anti gel??

No, it is not cetane boosted, in fact it has an even lower cetane rating than #2 diesel due to the addition of kerosene to lower the pour point. #1 diesel may or may not have antigel added to it, depending on the distributor.

Thanks........

No problem

When I had a fuel injector pump problem on my 801 Ford a technician from an injector shop advised 1 qt of power service in 5 gallons of fuel. Problem cleared & used regular dose after that with no reocurrance. I think if you ran on straight PS you'd just run out of money. MikeD74T

Whenever I change out the fuel filters on all my diesels, I always fill the bowl up with 100% Power Service. Starts right back up and runs fine.
