Dont carry acetylene in an eenclosed space

I came across this on another forum. You should never carry aceteylene (or any other flammable gas like propane) in an enclosed space. Ive seen many on forums say "No big deal" but this is what can happen. This guy is lucky to be alive.

i had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and over night the truck filled with the gas. i noticed the smell, and opened the doors to air out the truck. i drove the truck out of the garage to get some more air movement. i went to roll the pass side window down and as soon as i touched the power windows. BAM. with me in the truck. i lost all hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. all things considering, im alive.

so now ive got the question out to toyota about a 2012 TT. 125 to canada only, 15 in standard. i want a standard...

Holy unintentional ignition, Batman!

While we're at it, I'll throw the other obvious oft-ignored no-no out there:

Don't carry gasoline in an enclosed vehicle!

Gasoline vapors escaping from a container are (wait for it......)

a flammable gas, just looking for an ignition source!

Even a brand-new container cap can leak- you could cross-thread it, it could be poorly made, or the whole shmeer could fly across the cargo compartment during a panic stop.

Needless to say, there are many lessons to be learned from other's mistakes!

Also, when storing in an enclosed compartment make sure there are also vents at the bottom becuse acetylene is heavier than area and will start to settle below then build up.

Wow that is crazy. With all the damage to the truck, I am surprised he survived. Very, very lucky man.

A lot of the smaller acct tanks don`t have caps.

I've been transporting my bottles in my SUV for years with no iussues (and I empty and fill lots of bottles)

But the caps are on in transport, the valves are off and I drive cautiously.

Twas only a Jap Toyota anyway.....:laughing:

Wow, I am also surprised the driver was so lucky. I guess the Ace. settled down in the door panels and when the old window motor sparked, well KABOOM. Man that opened up the Toyota like a sardine can. I would not have wanted to be in that vehicle.
