Need a bigger faster chainsaw for larger diameter trees. Looking at the Dolmar 7900 24" bar, Husky 372 or maybe even the Husky 357 XP. Any Dolmar dealers that sell on the web. Price will be a determing factor.

Thanks

The Dolmar 7900 is an awesome saw, a true beast! The Husky 372XP is a true Masterpiece! The 575 was supposed to replace it but it is a FLOP. From what I understand it has dual ports in the carb or something which most detest. I have a 371XP which is basically the same as a 372. The fit and finish of the Husky is el supremo and its a smooth saw as well. Nobody can deny the nod goes to the 7900 for power though. If you do buy either give this guy a call on the Dolmar 7900. His name is Brad Curtis and his 7900 prices are very good, (best I've found) www.firstgeartrucks.com Tell him Don/Crosshare sent ya.

Thanks DaddyRabbit,

Dolmar Advertising is lacking and their web site dealer locater is poor but I have only heard good things about the 7900. I still like the looks and features of the Husky but I'm going to give the Dolmar a try. A friend from another board is going to visit me with his 7900 and give me a demo on a tree that needs cutting. I'll contact Brad

Thanks Again :)

Before you buy just remember to try them both. You might wind up w/a powerhouse of a saw that you can't stand to hold. I'm like that by a stihl. I know they're great saws but the handle feels horrible to me. The husky feels like a gorgeous redhead in my hands...perfect.

Also consider dealer support after the sale....something Dolmar is not well known for.

Absolutely correct - Dealer support is a definite plus and why I'm turned off from Stihl and Husquavarna. I like the Huskys but I live in a very rural area and the local Stihl dealer isn't known for sales and or service. Bought a new Husqvarna Garden Tractor, deck belt broke prematurely and had been a recall on improper install of that belt from the factory resulting in breakage. It was a very odd sized belt that I couldn't match locally. Husky dealer was no help and had me call factory. Factory wanted 75.00 for the belt. I thru hours of research on the internet found a Poulan belt (same manufacturer) for 26.00 Husky had an odd stock number on this belt that did not cross reference. I bought 3 and hopefully everything else will last because if it had been a motor or tranny part it would have become a lawn ornament. For what it's worth. Electrolux will ruin Husky before they are done.

The guys at arborsite rant and rave about the 7900, but I've also read there that they cannot be sold via the internet any longer. So it sounds like you'll have to deal locally or possibly find one on ebay.

Well finally got my demo from a friend who was kind enough to bring his Dolmar's to my place and cut up a downed large maple. Them some Bad A**ed saws. Now to spend my dollars :D

Quite correct Mack, I love the Dolmar's and I'm still looking but a strong Dolmar Dealer Network doesn't seem to exist locally. It seems that they have (at least where I've checked) rental stores, small lawn mower repair shops, etc and they do not stock a selection of saws or seem to have any inventory or quite frankly interested in selling Dolmar saws. Too bad, they seem to be great saws, high HP and can really cut but their retail outlets are not designed to sell saws. The bigger dealers who do sell are cross country from me and I'm leery of investing top $$'s in a saw that will eventually need service or repair. All mechanical equipment needs routine maintenance, service and eventual repair. Maybe Dolmar should be in the movie business after all, it's always thrilling to watch another Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie ;) A cult saw with a small dedicated following but will never become mainstream in America with their non existent Dealer Network and seemingly lack of mainstream marketing. I'm still willing to give them a chance but looks like Husky will get my chainsaw dollars, strong dealer network, sales, service, support and some good Pro Saw models. Too bad, I wanted to be a Dolmar Owner :D

4Sarge, go to Baileys and buy yourself a New 372XP and you can't go wrong. I can't imagine jumping on anything this beast won't handle. Mine runs like a raped ape!! I think you'll be hard pressed to beat Husky.
