does your 2816 4wd ( non-HST) make any whining noise?

I just purchased a Mahindra 2816 4wd ( 1st tractor) that has a manual transmission and a front end loader. My question is it normal for the tractor to make a whining noise while going slow ( in either froward or reverse). When I put it into high gear is seems to be almost inaudible? Is this normal if not what should i do?

I recently purchased a 2009 2816 w/ loader as well and my tractor does the exact opposite. It has a slight whine in high range while moving faster and does not whine while moving slow. I dont think you have anything to worry about unless it gets worse. Maybe someone else will have a better answer. Hope this helps.

How do you like the 2816 so far?

duckhunt - is your fwa engaged when it does this?
if yes, make sure it's out of 4x4 mode before going into high range.

It is possible that it was engaged. Will that hurt the 4wd? I usually leave it engaged at all times being that I rarely go into high range.

driving in high range 4wd puts a lot of stress on the gears/linkages in the front axle. Look in your manual. It also makes the thing harder to steer. (much like using 4wd on pavement)
I did this once, and once I figured out the noise, stopped and disengaged, and was amazed at the difference in ride quality and handling. (took the tractor on our gravel road to the neighbors to scrape the centerline of her driveway before gravel was delivered)
