Power Trac 1845 and 425
I have an 1845 that I once used for mowing (before I wised up and bought a used Exmark). Like many others here, I had a lot of problems with overheating. I eventually screened the entire inside of the hood and created a type of "prefilter" for the rear that largely addressed the problem. By addressed I mean I only had to clean the radiator once every 4-5 hours of mowing instead of once every 30 minutes. Frankly, I'm still shocked Power Trac hasn't addressed this issue since the 1845 is designed as a mower.

As I've mentioned before, I'm considering a 1430. I don't recall many comments about this machine overheating. I'd use the machine primarily for brush cutting instead of mowing (I'm not planning to even buy the mower). Where I intend to use the machine I don't have access to an air compressor. So it would be more aggravating to clean when the radiator gets dirty.

Does anyone know if this machine has the same overheating problem? I would assume so but thought I would ask.

Marrt-
I have the 1445 with the brush cutter, and I wouldn't say clogging was a problem. I think it depends greatly upon what you are cutting. I cut green thistle and brush for the most part. I have a couple of dandelion like weeds that put out debris that is definitely sticks to the hydraulic cooler, but I have never had to stop mowing because of it. YMMV.
I can say that the Deutz, and the hydraulic cooler are both non-Agriculture versions, with finer spacing on the fins, but that's why the radiators are so small. I would think a soft brush would get 90% of it off, if you had to go that route. You already know how to screen it up.

I have considered tinkering with the airflow and adding a second fan for pulling cool air into the engine hood, but it hasn't made it to the top of my do list... :)

All the best,

Peter

I have a 1430 with the brush cutter and recently used it for about 10 hours mowing an orchard without any issues. There were lots of dandelions and then temperature was in the low 80's. I didn't see the build up of dandelions that we get with our Kubota zero turn. The brush cutter doesn't mulch the clippings nearly as much as a finish mower so maybe that results in less dust.

I have pondered adding a second oil cooler to my engine. It does indeed overheat. I made a mod to that top flange that allows more air flow out of the Deutz, but I still think I could do better. Not sure if the engine can pump oil down a pipe to a cooler or not. Not sure if I want to find out.

I took that top flange right off. Can blow the radiator out with leaf blower or occasionally soak it with simple green and flush with hose. I kind of wonder what is considered overheating with these engines. I've run my 1430 for hours at probably 220 degrees ( how accurate is gauge?) and still going with 2000 hours.
