does new disc come with already greased

I recently purchased a new Howse Disc Harrow 4' and I am wondering if it would have come with everything already greased.

Also, with the disc raised should the disc turn easily if turned by hand?

should be greased by dealer but it won't hurt to grease it again to be safe as far as turning by hand you should be able to turn but won't be real easy

I would not count on it being greased, and you should be able to turn it with some effort with one hand. Ed

Inspect the four gang axle nuts frequently. They loosen until they settle in, which will vary with how much you use the disc.

Keep those axle nuts TIGHT.

I can't speak to Howse but at JD, the gangs were greased during assembly so that when it was painted the paint wouldn't stick to it. I would assume Howse did something similar. But you should still check everyone else's work just to be sure.

You should know that many disks are supplied with sealed bearings that do not require greasing. Only the cheaper models still come with greaesable babbit or sleeve type brearings.

I didn't know that. I just started counting years, there's been 18 of them since i was working on the disk line. Stands to reason that something would change in that time.

One friend has a small Kabota and when I looked at it it had NEVER been greased! And she had it for over 5 years. There was no sign that it had ever been greased, even from new.
I have worked on equipment for many years and know the difference.
Another friend bought a new 10' Brush cutter 2 months ago ($3995.00). When he got it home from the dealer he found that the blades were on backwards! AND the gear boxes were not timed!
I say trust no one! Check it out good and grease it then you will know!
Also GOOD grease doesn't cost that much more than poor quality grease.
