I was wondering if anyone uses chains on their BX for the winter. I have bar tires filled with 110 pounds of liquid and was wondering if the chains will be neccessary... I intend to use the loader to pile snow after I plow the driveway with the old 79 Ford.... thanks

Junkman... I used my BX last winter without chains. I live in a very hilly area and I had no problems with traction. I think chains would help if you get a lot of ice in your area.

Good Morning:

Regarding chains, they are very useful if you have a bit of ice and are using turf tires. Good for plowing and for snowblowing. Just a word of caution, make sure that the spreader is tight enough to ensure clearance of the chains around any objects on the rear end. Last year I used them on another Bota with turf tires and found I had to purchase wheel spacers for the rear tires in order to clear the dip stick pipe for the rear end.

With 4 wheel drive you will have plenty of traction....used mine last winter with turf tires, unfilled and had no problem. This year I will have my filled bar tires on for extra insurance also.

Junkman; I plowed snow for 2 years without chains and did the job. I bought a pair of chains from tirechains.com and they made the tractor work that much nicer. Not needed but well worth the $125.00 I paid for them.

I would NOT use chains, because the cross chain might hit the fuel tank !!

I would think that between the ags and the fluid, you should be good to go on everything except ice. If you do decide to go with chains, remember that they can gouge asphalt driveways easily, my brothers drive is proof of that, and his chains were on a little Cub garden tractor. I shudder to think what they would do to the drive on his B6200 (about the same weight as my BX). IF you have a stone drive, it wouldn't be so bad...you can clean it up in the sprint with the blade....

Last year I bought rear chains for my new BX2200 thinking I might need them. I blew snow all winter with my front mount blower. I never put the chains on cause I didn't need them. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I did however have about 200 lbs of barbell weights on my drawbar on the 3 pt hitch. The used plastic coated weights are cheap and can be bought at thrift stores like Goodwill, St Vincent DePaul, etc...

What brand of snow blower do you have? Been thinking of getting one, but this season I will /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifplow with the '79 Ford.
