When farming we turned the fuel pump up on each one of our tractors. Each one had quite a bit available to us with a turn of a screw. Do these little tractors have the same? I have 16.5 hp but is 18 or 19 readily available? Certainly don't want to hurt my tractor or make it smoke like a super stocker. How accurate is Yanmar on the ratings? Do you see more on the dyno than advertised?

I am thinking that no one has done this? Is it something that cannot be done?

I have never played around with the jetting on carbs. Not having one closeby, I seem to remember there being some sort of safety wire/tab on these setting screws to avoid tampering?

My "easy" answer.....if you need more power.....get a bigger tractor.....

Tractors usually come up short on traction, not power.

More power would just spin the tires faster when you are stuck. :)

I am thinking that no one does anymore. Years ago I think every tractor in the area got turned up before delivery. Times have changed. I have been out of it for a while and just wanted to see if anyone was still doing this. I am putting on a big snowblower and just a bit more could not hurt.

I am sure that you could do it but I don't see any reason to do so anymore. Additional wear and tear plus overheating your engine is a possibility. If your tractor will run the rated RPM's from the factory turning up the pump will get you a lot of black smoke, more power, and more fuel usage. Our old Allis Chalmers 180 was rebuilt years ago and when rebuilt the pump was turned up to 2200 RPM's. That was the factory setting for the 185's thus resulting in approximately 10 more HP over the 180's that was factory set to 2000 RPM's. That is the way it was done back then.

When we turned our pumps up we gave them more fuel but no more rpm. We left them at factory rpm. They certainly will run hotter when under heavy load and smoke a little more for sure.

You didn't say what you have as a tractor. If you have the yanmar 221 or 324 or 424 as examples . . Those are all tier 4 products. Even if you can adjust the fuel pump . . What you'd accomplish is a dirty engine.

If you want better performance from your engine . . You want to keep it as clean as you can on the inside with a better fuel . . . especially with tier 4 engines.

So keep the screwdriver in your picket but use premium ultra low sulphur diesel instead of regular ultra low sulphur diesel. Its maybe a nickel or a dime a gallon more but you'll get better mileage, less smoke, a bit more power, and a cleaner engine.

That's exactly what many higher volume users do.

Do you have any idea how Yanmar is meeting the Tier IV regs? Aren't others using DPF and regens? Or am I confused about which HP need to meet those requirements?

I have an sc2400. Wish there was a programmer like my truck. I am sure it will do fine with the power it has as I do not want to get into egt gauges and all. I just wondered if there was anything to gain at all.
