Hi everyone, in the spring i'll be in the market for my new Kubota tractor. I've narrowed it down to the
b2920, or the
b2630. The problem is i've been on this sight for weeks looking for threads about the 2630 but have'nt seen anything yet. I know everyone is going to tell me why not the
b3030. Well I was quoted a price of 18,500 for the
b2630 with fel and mmm. I'm sure the 3030 will price out at least 2-3 grand more for about the same tractor except the hp. Thanks for any help I get. Chas
Hi Chas-
Actually took delivery of our new (2008 model)
B2630 with LA403 loader (but not with MMM) last Saturday - have put about 6 hours on it since (lot of mowing; little bit of loader work).
We traded our trusty
BX2230 for the
B2630, and are rather pleased with the new tractor - got what I think is a pretty good price (15,500) for a new 2008
B2630 with LA403 loader - with 0.9 hours (both loader and tractor were in really great shape). The dealer (Streacker Tractor - see below) gave a great trade on the
BX2230 and I did the Kubota 0% for 4 years. I'd guess a MMM would add about 2500-3000 (so your 18.5K for the 2630 with mower is in the ballpark), but that's a WAG; I use a 3PH RFM as I never liked the process of connecting / disconnecting the MMM on my
BX2230 (a PITA IMHO). RFM's are also noticeably cheaper than the MMMs. True you have to pay a bit more attention to where your backside is going, but I've found the trade-off more than acceptable. But I digress.
The BXX30 models are a more deluxe model. Here's what the
B2630/
B3030 has (that apparently the
B2920 doesn't) that I know of.
Nicer 3PH (heavier duty, rachet link adjustment, telescopic link ends, position control as opposed to the quarter-inching valve). IMHO the position control gives more precise control of where the implement is placed (and is relatively easily repeated) - nice for blade work, among other things.
It also has tilt steering wheel (something I didn't think would be all that important but actually is pretty nice), and the cruise control is nicer (actually mechanically linked to the pedal - shove the lever forward and the pedal moves - as opposed to the rachet lock-type that appears to be on the
B2920 - nice for constant speed applications).
I think it also has a heavier-duty (more capacity) hydraulic system.
I'm sure others will be able to chime in in case I've missed (or mis-stated) something.
Vis horsepower, at least one respected opinion on this forum has questioned the need for 30 HP on something as light as the B-series Kubota. I'm inclined to agree with this position, unless you need some serious pop at the PTO.
A couple of ideas for buying. First, Barlow's in Kentucky apparently has pretty good prices and deals over the internet a lot. I did get a price from them, and although I wound up going with another dealer (see below) I can see from my brief interaction with them why they have a great reputation.
I'd also toss in a plug for the dealer who sold me my
B2630; Streacker Tractors in Findlay, OH. Easy to work with, gave a great trade on the
BX2230, and, although it wasn't totally necessary (I grew up around tractors - learned to drive a Massey 135 when I was too light to get the clutch down without standing on it - a while ago I can assure you) Tom spent well over an hour walking me through the differences between the
BX2230 that I traded in and the new
B2630. Friendly, helpful and professional. A great combination.
Hope this helps.
