On some other oposts you mentioned your new wood spliiter. And on my firewood and women photo post you said you would be using it for the first time this past weekend.
How did that go? Could I trouble you for a quick review?I would be inerested to hear what you think.

Phil it went great and as promised I did take some photos but I just have not got to post them . If you want to PM me your email address I will mail them directly so you can see. It worked flwalessly. I split about 4 cords of maple last saturday afternoon and 2 are home in the garage. I have to haul it 300 plus miles so I only bring about 2 at a time home. I give it two thumbs up for the price. Plenty of HP and power for my needs. Mine does go vertical but I will probably never use it that way. It took a couple of hours to aassemble and came with good directions. The Prince Valve is very nice and smooth with a auto return plus the 6 month easy pay is just plain hard to beat. Dave

Great when a piece of equipment exceeds your expectations. I noticed that the splitter is rigged horizontally in the photos. Did you use it in the vertical position to save wear and tear on your back?

It easily converts to that position but I move the wood with the FEL and unload from there onto the splitter. This saves any extra bending and is very fast so I will probably never use it verticle. If I do come across some large stumps it is nice to have that ability though. I am very pleased with Northern tools. The product is great and the transaction was very smooth.

Done a lot of splitting over the years. We cut up a huge Hackberry tree a few weeks ago. The people who owned it paid a pro to cut it down and haul the brush because it was too close to their home.

The main trunk was pretty big. After we cut into 16 inch lenghts we loaded with the tractor and then last Sunday we started splitting the big stuff. I am so glad we bought Log Tongs from Northern a few years ago. Sure makes things easier getting up on the splitter. Better than rolling up a plank.

This wood sure will be good burning for next season if it don't get the best of us.

When I was in school we used to collect huge beech trunks that the loggers would leave. Then in the fall we would split those bad boys up. That was real work lifting those. Most my stuff now is 8-12". Not difficult to work with but my property is so far away I dont have time to spare once I get there to work. a wood splitter is a very nice tool. Works GREAT with a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I guess its the tim taylor tool nut in me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I am glad I am not splitting any thing that big. That might be a titch more than a 5 hp 20 ton can handle. But I wouldnt hesitate to try. Dave

Be careful. A fellow up the street got his thumb smashed a few weeks ago.

They said he had his thumb broke in 3 places. That hurts just thinking about it.
