Wonder if my XJ2025 should have additive in the fuel this winter....most guys I talk to say you don't need it...

I don't use it very often. "Power Serve" occasionally. But, if I lived in NY I would use it regularly.

Since I have had to walk home a couple times and limped a few other occasions I always use an additive to prevent gelling.
I also filter while filling to strain out any water and or debris.
I use a very fine mesh filter and it always seems to catch anywhere from a drop to a tablespoon or two.
I also like to keep my fuel topped up to prevent condensation.

No, but my tractor sleeps in a garage heated to 45F.

Gotta be honest, a bit worried about this myself. Not sure I'll use it this winter though...we're not on the land yet.

Wanted to, started to, forgot to do it, remembered to do it again then forgot it again. Now I just forget it completely and everything runs just fine. I wouldn't unless troubles like gelling appear and they never have for me in 23 years.

Had my Dodge Cummins since 98, have never added anything to the fuel. Never had any problems either. That would include some high elevation very cold starts while snowmobiling here in Utah/Idaho/Wyoming.
My tractor was new the day after Christmas last year and I never put anything in it either.
Not to disagree with Piloon, but don't fill your tanks with diesel until the filling stations are completely changed over to winter grade diesel. I think sometimes people have full tanks of summer or transition fuel when it gets cold and then have problems.

This.^^^

If you use it, it probably doesn't matter; if you don't, power service and a battery maintainer.

Projecting TN weather related experiences to Upstate NY won't help the OP.

I use an anti-gel from October on. I've had fuel problems in winter before, they are no fun. If I can prevent trouble with a small investment and effort you can bet I will.
