Is it common for new tractors to have down pressure on the 3 point? Just curious as I watch some videos of people back blading...their blades never lift. Mind always hit rocks and bounce, or even thick sod will push them up.

Just curious!!

Almost never. The rare exception is down pressure on some post hole augers which are operated with tractor stationary.

Newton's Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Three Point Hitch down pressure would lift tractor rear wheels, decreasing traction.

So, rather than down pressure buy the heaviest per-foot-of-width ground contact implements your budget allows.

As Jeff clearly explained, almost never.

I read a thread here awhile back about this subject. Some input indicated that there are a few brands/models that do. Sorry, I don't remember which ones.

Ok, so at any position set for the 3 pt,. One could lift the 3 pt arms up by hand still, just not down? Same as the vintage tractors I am used to?

Some new Deeres, as an option. Old Belarus from USSR days.

Not new, but the IH 560 did have downward pressure. Post hole digging dream.
It also introduced the torque amplifier. The war was then won by the green machines. Until then, it was the big 2. Those TAs might near killed the IH/Farmall brand.

I would have liked to play with a Belarus, of which there were many around here.

I'm thinking that you would see a lot more tractor roll overs if this feature was common.

Yes. Very, very little has changed with Harry Ferguson's Three Point Hitch since it went off-patent in the mid-1950s. It is a world standard.

"The three-point hitch is a standardized method of attaching implements (equipment) to tractors, first developed by Harry Ferguson in the 1920s. The three-point hitch uses two lower connection points and one upper point which provides a rigid connection. Hydraulic cylinders operate on the lower arms to raise and lower the implement. An additional hydraulic arm may act on the upper arm to control the draft (depth) of tillage equipment. A significant advantage of the three-point hitch is that it converts the drag of the equipment into a downward force on the rear of the tractor. This means that the traction is maximized when the pulling is most difficult."

The SL&H Hurlimann Prince has two lever position control on the 3 pt. Effectively, that is down pressure.

The combination of draft and position control can be mixed to result in useful control of just about any fitted implement.
