I am considering the purchase of either a DK55 or an LS U5030 and I am overwhelmed and under informed on the Tier IV variations. Logic tells me I don't want the very latest tech with EGR, computers for the exhaust system, filters that "burn off" and so forth. However, I am uncertain what the current tech is for the DK55 series. I am looking at a new 2013 or a used 2012 DK55. Both have a "normal" exhaust system with no crazy stuff. How do I assess the timeframe between the changeover to the different pollution technologies and the operating implications of each?

Any help appreciated. I have a M5040 cab tractor and a L3700SU that I am looking to replace with a single open station 50+ hp shuttle tractor.

From what I understand.
All Dk series will stop at tier 4 interim. tier 4 interim does not have the DPF, common rail, and all the stuff that you are talking about. The DK series will be discontinued and the NX and or RX will replace it with full tier 4. Full Tier 4 will have something like 80% reduction in some kind of emission gas. the only way this can be achieved is with exhaust after treatment.

So from my understanding the DK series is done. All DK's are lacking exhaust after treatment. All DK's are mechanical injected like they have been forever.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
