2003 Kioti Dk35
Hello, I bought a Kioti DK35 new in March 2003. It is just like Vince's. I have 120 hours on it. The fuel tank is leaking on it. I removed it, which was quite a job. Anyway, it has paint bubbles all around the seams, and if you scrape them, there is rust underneath the paint and it is leaking in a few of the rusted spots. Should this be warranty? If not, how much should a new tank cost? Any chance of getting a plastic tank to replace it with? Also, my instrument cluster gets moisture in it when it is hot and humid outside, and you can't read the instruments. I told the dealer about it almost a year ago, and he said he would make a note of it. Now would be a good time to replace it while I have it all apart, if warranty will pay for it. The dealer is currently away at the moment, so I thought I would solicit a few comments in the meantime. Oh yeah I am a very long time reader, and really like Kioti! Thanks.

It looks like you are out of warranty since they have a 2 year bumper to bumper and you bought it in 03,
I would check with your dealer and see if he would work with Kioti on this one because rust is not something that just pops up!

I have to give you credit for diving right in. You tore that tractor to pieces.

Rust beneath the paint tells me that the tank was rusty before they painted it OR it sat out with water inside and the rust bubbles you see are nothing compared to what is on the inside. They sell a product for rusty metal tanks that involves several steps of cleaning, preping and then coating the inside with a layer of an epoxy type material to seal them up. I have heard of it being used on motorcycle tanks.

Maybe price out a replacement for giggles if the warranty route gets shot down.

Yeah HighBeam, I tore it up, I just hope I get a new tank before I forget how to put it back together! I have used that epoxy stuff on a used rusty atv tank with good results. I think this tank is too far gone for epoxy. I think rust starts in them on the boat ride over. When I test drove it, it had sat outside on the lot over winter with just a tiny bit of fuel in it. Since I have owned it, I have kept it mostly topped up since I know the effects of condensation. I spoke with the dealer, he said he will call Kioti Monday morning to see if they will warranty it. I asked to have it overnighted when he orders it. He said to add $40.00 for that. Don't know the price for the tank yet.

Anyone want to guess the price? No cheating....

BTW if you want to fix it yourself "Kreem" is good stuff.
I have used it on motorcycle tanks, you never have to worry again if you use it.

I'm guessing 495$. Seems nothing big and important is less than 500$ these days. How's that for a WAG?
