This weekend I finally had some time to get my beacon on. I purchased the beacon and the pole mount from Larsen Lights and the Hella/BMW 12v plug off eBay. I've got less than $60 total in this. My local farm equipment dealers had the same beacons for $80 with no pole or plug, so I started searching, which is when I ran across the Larsen page. I believe the beacon kit from the LS dealer is around $200 for a pole and light wired w/ the plug. The light I purchased has three different options: rotating, quick flashing strobe, and a continuous strobe. It is also a LED beacon.
I ended up rewiring the plug, then soldered the beacon wires and the wires running from the plug together because I'm kind of OCD and wasn't happy with the way the wiring looked. I also made some modifications of the actual bracket to give me a 90 degree mounting bracket and drilled two holes to attach to the existing mount on the corner panel of the tractor, which can be seen in the photos. I hope this helps anyone who has wanted a beacon, but didn't want to spend the money on the kit. This is a very easy addition and can basically be plug and play straight out of the box, unless you're like me. I'm now happy with the way it looks, but I think once it warms up, I'll be painting the pole and the bracket black.
