Ditch Witch 3500 and backhoe attachment-what does it take?

Hello all

I was blessed with good fortune to have a friend give me a functional (runs well) Ditch Witch 3500 trencher. She has mostly what I believe are rock teeth on the chain. Previously she was working in South Florida and in the keys where limerock is the soup of the day, so rock teeth were necessary. Our soil in Avon Park, Florida is mostly sandy soil, so it basically will trench as fast as I can drive. I have access to purchase an A222 backhoe attachment that is supposed to be in fairly good condition. What would be a fair price for this unit? I understand that I would also need a hydraulic manifold to add this implement to my 3500. How complicated a job is this?

3pt backhoes go for 2-4k or so. No clue how big you are talking about there, but 3pt hoes range in size from Kubota BX on up. Functionally a 3pt hoe (or SSQA for that matter) is not going to be any significantly different than whatever you are mounting to a Ditch Witch, other than a different mounting bracket. The SSQA hoes go from 3-6k or so from what I've seen used.

Googling Ditch Witch A222 shows DITCH WITCH A222 BACKHOE ATTACHMENT FITS 2310 3500 4500 - 3610 others w adapters among other things.

I gave $300 for a used A620 ditchwitch hoe. Lot bigger attachment than your wanting, but ditchwitches are laying in the ditches around here and sell for scrap prices. Not knowing anything about the machine you have or how similar it is to what I purchased, I will say that the A620 had its own hydraulic pump which was a double pump. Pump was mounted to the front of the engine, but it got its oil from the trencher hyd tank . It was also held onto the trencher with just 4 bolts, I believe, but it may have been 6, anyways it just bolted flush to the trencher. Hoses where QC. You machine may or maynot be similar. I would ask the seller if the pump and connector vavle on the side go with the backhoe, if not and yours machine doesnt already have it, then you could be out a bunch more money besides the price of the hoe.

I have an older model 3610 Ditch Witch with an A322 backhoe...there is a sub-frame but the 3610 has auxiliary QD's for the backhoe hydraulics on the front left side...there is also auxiliary ports for a horizontal boring attachment...

FWIW...Ditch Witch makes a remote hydraulic kit (at least for the A322) that allows both the front blade and the ground drive system to be operated from the backhoe station...this is great for creeping forward or backward without having to move to the main station...
