I came across a really good deal on a used Ventura ditch / verge flail mower. It’s a 79”, rated for 70-100hp tractors. I was looking to run it on my 60hp Kubota L5740. It’s an open cab with loaded rear tires. I feel I won’t have an issue with hp, my concern is the weight when it’s fully extended and raised off the ground.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Ventura Trim 201E Commercial Roadside Ditch Mower, 79'' Cut!

You‘d be surprised at how much affect the cantilevering of a mower has on the stability of a tractor. I ran an 8’ Ferri hydraulic adjust swing flail on my 10,000lb tractor and the mower threw the tractor around pretty bad. I should have used it on my bigger tractor.

I have been reading up on ditch mowers for the past several years, and will likely end up with a Peruzzo Elk 60" flail. I am still concerned that it will be too much weight hanging off the side of my L4060, which is similar weight to the op's L5460. The Peruzzo weighs 860 lbs, compared to the 1540 lb mower the op was asking about.

The weight only matters if you lift it while extended. It's not suppose to be bouncing around--You lay the rear roller on the ground, extend and mow. Retract it before lifting. As with any new implement, it takes some learning and finesse. And as with any machine, it requires your full attention.

Yikes. A lot of torque on that 3 point setup. The municipalities have a more purpose built attachment on their ditch/bank mowers.

You can get away with it if you are careful. Once the roller is on the ground, the tractor doesn’t carry the weight.
I run a similar Berti 2 meter ditch bank flail on my 60 PTO hp LS. All totaled, it weighs about 1800 lbs.
You would definitely need the tires loaded and want them spaced out as far as practicable.
I mostly mow flat land, but I also mow the ditches next to the highway, but that has quite a bit more pucker factor.

This is true, but when mowing a somewhat steep bank, many times obstacles are encountered (tree, rock, pipe, etc). One must raise the mower to go over or around it.
That is when the tipping could occur, or lots of strain on the 3pt and tractor.
