Having bought my neighbors 8 acre field, one that adjoins my own, I:d like to disk it up and replant in pasture grass. This field had one horse for maybe 5 years but that was 20 years ago and has sat since in other than being mowed.. My tractor is 30hp but I don't own a disk. I could buy a new one, as used implements around here means very big like 100HP stuff and larger. I think a 6ft disk would work for me but which one would be suitable on todays market and at what cost? I know this ground has some rocks so I'd rather not plow it up if possible, but if disking it 4 inches or so this might be what I need. I talked around to have it done for me but custom guys want a lot of cash for such a small field, I can't blame them though but in reality I'd rather do it myself being retired now with lots of time. Any ideas on a disk?

Any disc a 30 HP tractor could pull would be about useless unless its sand.Disc are a secondary tool.A small single or two bottom plow first.
Brush hog as short as possible or burn first.

Yup it needs to be deep tilled first.

Without seeing what you have to start with it's hard to say what to do.
Is the ground rough, so that it needs smoothing out. Does it have a lot of undesirable vegetation growing.
Why do you want to disc it up.
A heavy disc can do primary tillage but you don't have enough tractor for an offset disc.
If the ground just needs to be seeded, no till is a good option to look at.

I tend to think any disc is going to expose some rocks.

If you can find a drag disk it will out preform a 3 point disc 3 to 1 but if you don't have more use for a disc than I've found for mine you should rent/borrow one. If you don't have a box blade you can buy one for less than a disc and you will find plenty of use for it. Drop the rippers all the way down and tilt blade foward to drive rippers even deeper. The box will do as good if not better because it fracturs hard pan that a disc can't reach. Another benefit is that if you kick up large rocks you can roll them into groups making them faster to load and haul out of field. If necessary make a second pass perpendicular to first pass. I disagree with those saying your tractor is worthless, underpowered or inadequate. Your 30 horse 1020 John Deere can work circles around overseas built tractors claiming to be 30 Hp.

Talk with your local soil and water conservation district. There is cost/share funding for grassland improvement. They usually also have local contractors who can do tillage or drill seeding.

The word "field" is a racial slur according to the woke community. Perhaps "acreage" would be acceptable.
