If memory serves me that's a 2wd 30 hp tractor around 50 some years young. Are you looking new/used? How much land do you need to disc? I would try and get a box frame disc if your tractor/3-pt could handle the weight. Here's an example but there are a few good brands.

brand makes lil difference.

a 6.5' dual ganged disc is a good fit. box frames are usually heaviner than angle iron frames...

Used is a hit or miss proposition and it's hard to shop brands. Some on here do very well finding used equipment, me not so much. I think a lot depends on where you live. Most of the discs I see for sale used are lower priced angle iron units in pretty rough shape.

For what you described you are doing, a small PTO tiller may be a better choice if your tractor can run one.

Put me in the group that is having a hard time finding a good used disc, lots of overpriced good stuff or cheap junk. I'm still searching though!

To cut and mix soil you need at least 40 pounds bearing on each Disc Harrow pan. For a Ford 640 that means pans 18" in diameter. If you have four wheel drive you could pull a Disc Harrow with 20" pans. (50+ pounds per pan) Almost every disc harrow with 18" and 20" pans has notched discs, which cut through some vegetation smooth discs will roll over. Notched discs are preferred.

Angle frame Disc Harrows will not be heavy enough to perform well. May be enough for garden use, though, if the ground has been previously broken. Used angle-frame Disc Harrows are usually "loose".

You can buy a new 16/18" Box Frame Disc Harrow, six feet wide, for about $1,000. I have a Howse 16/18" and the build and paint is excellent.

I'm with DEERHERD, that a PTO powered roto-tiller may be a better garden solution. Winter is time of lowest implement prices; Spring is time of highest implement prices.

box frame is best due to weight and toughness. angle irons are almost throw away.
