I've used this tractor for about everything that is associated with farming (in a small scale), land clearing, and mowing. The disc that I am pulling is a 10 ft transport disc with a big steel I beam for weight. I wasn't sure if I could pull it but the 45 did a good job. The disc had sat at my neighbors farm for three years with no use but with some air in the tires, WD 40, and grease it was almost as good as new.

Hey, Oleozz nice picture I always wondered how big a disc a 45 -50hp tractor would pull. Looks like your field is coming along what are you going to plant ? Keep the pics. coming.

Hi Frenchie---There will be sweet corn in the fields. It should be planted by now but when you have to borrow equipment things don't always get done on time. The feed store was out of the sweet corn that I wanted to plant and it won't be in until Thursday.

Great photo, do you have any idea about the weight you are pulling. Just trying to get idea what my ck30 could pull.

This is interesting to me in I just bought a couple of disc. One a 7' was described as a leveling disc and the other an Allis Chalmers approx 9' cutting disc.

Here is a link. My friends and even the former owner questioned whether a DK 55 had enough weight and torque to pull the the larger one.

Here is a link to some pictures - the ones I bought are labeled 'Allis Chalmers' and 'Leveler'

Various Pieces

Thanks

DO you think you could go bigger?

I am concerned I don't have the weight or power to handle the nine footer. Pretty sure I can handle the 7 foot leveler.

That is an interesting picture. I have been following this thread:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/108559-tandem-disc-harrows.html?highlight=disc

and I was surprised by some of the findings. It seems that some people with similar hp tractors (40-50) are going with 6-7ft units. I do think that may have something to do with the mounting i.e. trailed or 3pt. I would like to have a nice 3pt. mount disc and was looking at this unit: Agriculture TH & THF Series Tandem Discs - Monroe Tufline
MODEL: THF92020
BLADES: 20-20"
SPACING: 9"
WIDTH OF CUT: 8"
WEIGHT: 1086#
"Hinged so the rear gange can fold over on top of the front gang for a heavier cut. Rear gang is floating for a smoother finish for seed beds."

The question is can the DK45SE handle the 8ft. cut and lift? Some on the above thread feel that 45-50hp tractors don't think so. One guy says that when he lift the a similar unit off with his 3pt. it was only a few inches of the ground. Sounds like and top adjust issue to me?

A lot of the ability to pull the disk is dependent on how much offset you dial into the disks. You can increase the drag a great deal with a heavy offset. Dial the offset back and you will need a lot less HP to pull them.

I don't think I can adjust the offset on the 9' unit I have. The 7' foot seems set as well. I guess I will just have to try them out and see. Both of mine are pull type units and seem fairly heavy.

I'm pulling with a DK55c.
