Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of the DISC PLOW made by Monroe-Tufline. It is what is called here in the old south an old fashined disc turning plow with some innovations. I was wondering how it works in ground that has recently been bushhogged. A moldboard plow picks up too much trash and my heavy duty disk harrow will not cut thru the trash and the ground is also hard. The model line in question is the TDP2-2/22, 2/24, or 2/26.These appear to be top quality and I think appropriate for ground that has not been worked for years and is trashy. ANy help is appreciated greatly.
Thanks in advance

Greg,
I don't have first hand knowdlege of this plow, but I do think it would plow well and maybe with less power than a moldboard. Do you already own a mold board plow?

We did not have a bush hog mower when I was a kid, but I remember my dad could take a 12" mold board plow with a coulter and he would fashion a roll bar for the grass to fold it down into the bottom of the furrow so that very tall grass would be laying at the bottom, completely covered, as the dirt rolled over. You could see practically nothing but fresh dirt when finished.

For ploughing fresh sod a different mole board is used. It is longer and will turn over the sod.

I have a feeling the mole board plough with a sharp coulter [ esential ] would pull easier than the disc plough. The disk plough would work very well for working up the sod after it has been turned over by a regular plough.

Any way that's the way we used to do it.

"A moldboard plow picks up too much trash"

Does your moldboard plow have leading coulters.. that is what is needed for heavy trash.. it cuts it so it won't hang up on the plow.. a moldboard is meant to be able turn that heavy stuff under.. don't think a disk plow would do a better job.

I have used one quite a bit. They work really well on what we call new ground. That is ground that has just been bulldozed. They will not hang on the roots and such that a moldboard will.

Mark4510,
Yes the 2 disc version is what I am refering to. Also, don't have coulters but wish I did!

Greetings Greg,
While I have no personal knowledge of the Monroe-Tufline disk plow, I spent many summers in the late sixties and early seventies with a JD 4 disk reversible plow turning under cotton stalks. It was able to save valuable time after the cotton harvest because due to the boll weevil problem, we had a cotton stalk eradication program mandated by the Texas Dept. of Agriculture. Your stalks had to be turned under by a specific date (September 1st usually).
The disk plow would save you the time it took to shred and disk the stalks so you could use the moldboard plow. It would just roll them under. It never had a problem with 4 1/2 foot tall stalks, with the rows or not. The 4020 pulled it, but the 4320 pulled it with aplumb!

HobbyFarm, I appreciate the info. Sounds like I have found what I need. I will order the 2 disc model with 26 inch discs. My L4310 GST Kubota 4WD will hopfully pull it .
Thanks
GregH
