I found a dip-stick on the injection-pump.
I have been messing with diesels since I was in diapers, even rebuilt a few pumps, and I have never before seen an injection-pump that had a dip-stick; the previous owner obviously hadn't either.
I pulled the little stick and it was dry as a bone.
I put a piece of aquarium hose onto one of my little pump-oiler-cans full of clean 15W-40 oil, maybe 4-ounces, stuck the hose in the breather-hole mentioned in a seperate thread, and pumped the can dry, until oil started showing on the stick.
Does anyone know any information/details/back-ground on this dip-stick business ??
Also, forward and above the dip-stick, there is a plug with a knurled top, about 3/8" diameter.
I pulled the plug straight up to find it about 1-1/4 long, with an O-ring seal on it's shaft.
What purpose does this plug serve ??
Thanks.
