Before you start digging don't forget to call the utility companies and have them come out and flag all the underground utilities. Here in Michigan we have a program called Miss Dig. You call Miss Dig and they arrange to have each and every different utility company come out and flag their stuff. If you call Miss Dig and then hit utilities that were not marked then you are not liable for damages. I was making a path through my woods last night and I knew there was a TV cable line crossing the path but I assumed it was at least buried 18" deep. Well just by using my Brush Hog rotary cutter I found their line right under the leaves. No damage was done and I called them today to tell them about it and they said will be out it a month or two to bury it.
Hope you don't mind I modified your pictures, I just couldn't make out any detail and I was assuming nobody else could either. We all love to look at photos so keep them coming.

The Cable Co. must not care too much since they say a month or two to come out. Sure hope you weren't planning on working on that trail anytime soon.
