DIFFERENTIAL LOCK

I have 5500 fwd, with 23 hours on it, yesterday when i was trying to use my differential lock, it just started clicking and not going engaged all the way. i was a little upset being i was using my tractor around alot of people and my tractor not working like it should.
I got to looking at the problem, and at the linkage and the pedal, it was never adjusted right, when pushing on the diff. pedal, it had alot of free-play, i took one end off and adjusted as needed, but i left a little free-play in it so it wouldnt be tight and trying to engage when not in use.
Had anyone had the same problem as i did??

I actually had the problem of my lever going past the engagement pin. Then the block that pushed the pin in would be on top of the pin, dif-lock un-engaged and lever stuck down. Usually had to pull the lever off to set it back up right. Last time I took the lever off, I never bothered to put it back. Its still laying in the shop floor.

Just another point of view. I've got over 200 hrs on my 6000 and I've NEVER had to use the diff. lock in order to get enough traction to do whatever the task was. Do you have your rears filled?? If you have an FEL, suggest you consider it if you haven't. BobG in VA

no i dont have a front end loader yet, i been using my tractor to pull big trees around after we cut them down, it is hilly and muddy, other than that i dont use the diff. lock on anything else, i am thinking about filling my front tires. noticed they dont dig down like the back tires do.

Before you go and fill the fronts, I assume you have the weight set on the front. It's 6 weights of about 40-couple lbs each. Note: the weights came with mine, I understand they may be an option now). Also, once you have the FEL on you won't have any problem with front wheel slippage as the FEL will weigh about 1500 lbs or so. BobG in VA

no my tractor didnt come with a weight set, i bought it about two months ago, mahindra is starting to back out on alot of options now, the rear remotes are not standard any more either on the 5500 fwd, but still standard on the 6000 and the 6500, but the dealer i bought the tractor from said he will put a set of remotes on when he does the 50 maints on it. which is free of charge for me. he put that in the deal when i bought the tractor.
yes i would like the weight set, but they wont $287.00 just for the weight "bracket". thats BS. it is cheaper to fill the front tires. dont you think??

Yep, I agree with you on that. Fill those front tires! Didn't know that the remote(s) don't come with the 5500 either. Shazam! Get that one set plumbed in, at that price I might even get 2 (you actually should think about that. Ask the dealer how much extra a seccond set would be since he will be getting into it for one anyway.). Bobg in VA

Wow, after reading this I went to the mahindra website. Couldn't believe my eyes. How could they sell a tractor as big as the 5500 without rear remotes? For a company that advertises how much comes standard compared to the other guys this is a tough one to swallow. Sure glad I got my tractor before the nickeling and diming started...

its called Bar J, the dealer is located in cleveland tx, when i went to buy this tractor, they didnt have one, so he ordered it, so what ever the options were as of to date, thats what i got, there are some tractors on the lots today that still have some of the old options on them.
