I'm getting ready to split my tractor in half and replace the clutch. I can save a few dollars buying a clutch off Ebay.

Is there are difference in quality compared to Ebay or Hoye..?? I am a big believer that you get what you pay for but I suspect there's only one company manufacturing most of the non-oem replacement parts and different people/suppliers are reselling them.????

It's probably the same clutch used in Nissans of that era, or some other popular Japanese car. No reason to re-invent something so common.

I would never buy unknown if Hoye stocks the part. There can be too much variability between the unknown Ebay suppliers. Surely the least expensive offering came from the cheapest supplier that that vendor could find on the world market. No thanks.

If you're 150% sure it's the right one go for it OTHERWISE I'd be getting the Hoye unit. You are in the same country so it's easy.

Split mine last year. Have no experience but job was easy after the split. Don't waste time when not sure. Buy original.

Even if it takes spending a buck or two more, Hoye is still going to be in business tomorrow if something isn't right. They do stand behind their products. That guy on ebay might as well, but he might not. I've bought lots of stuff from Hoye Tractor, never regretted doing so. Nothing against saving a buck or two, when splitting a tractor, I'd hate to do it twice for the same job. Be sure to get a new pilot bearing ( bushing ) and throwout bearing at the same time. I'd also get a fresh pressure plate to go along with the clutch. While the tractor is split, you might want to pull off the flywheel and check the bolts that attach the flywheel housing to the engine block. On these tractors, this joint is a part of the frame and does come loose. ( found this to be the case on my YM3000 ) Also, something else to check while you are in there, is the splined couplers on the small drive shaft between the transmission shaft and the long drive shaft. Easy to replace while the tractor is split. Hoye has these parts.

Thanks for all the advice....

Was going to replace everything while it was split.

Chris, could you be so kind as to get me the Hoye part numbers on "splined couplers on the small drive shaft between the transmission shaft and the long drive shaft"..???

I've done several truck clutch's over the years but this will be my 1st tractor split.

hoye should do like amazon does.Example : people that bought the clutch also bought these other items, and list these couplers, throw out bearing, pressure plate etc,. Might be helpful to those that don't know what's needed inside. If the customer chooses ,they can order all necessary items at once

I suspect those are the same clutch parts that fit a '72 Nissan, available from Advance Autoparts for about $100, (w/ their 15-20% discount) for everything.

normde, you could be right about the Nissan parts, and could be wrong as well. I've always made a effort to get the right parts first try if I can. Living out in the sticks like I do, the extra costs ( if any ) are quickly eaten up with a few extra trips to the auto parts store 50 miles away. One thing for sure, Hoye will know exactly what he needs, and sent the right thing the first time. Now, if you lived in a city, close to a auto parts store, it wouldn't matter much, trial and error would cost you little time or money.
