Difference between the TN and TC series?

The TN series is full Utility tractor, the TC is a compact Utility Tractor. The TN is heavier, about 7-800 lbs. in base form, longer, wider, and has higher hydraulic and lift capacity. These are just a few differences.

If you are needing the FWA option the TC55DA is the better buy. All the new TC55DA tractors are FWA and have a transmission option of a mechanical shuttle or the ESSS transmission which is a clutchless shuttle shift. The sound of the 4 cylinder turbo engine is enough to almost make the decision for you

I would say it comes down to what you will need it for. If you are only using it to maintain some property and a few horses the TC is the way to go. If you plan on doing any field work like tillage or haying then go with the TN.

Specifically the TN60 and the TC55. They appear to be pretty comparable to my untrained eye.
Thanks

I looked at a TC55 before I bought a used TN70A. I liked the 55. The EHSS is very nice. My TN70A is bigger, weighs more and the 3-cyl turbo has more vibration compared to a 4 cyl. You will enjoy either one.

Just wondering if you discovered any more differences and if you looked into the TT60A or even the TD75D, both of which are more of an economy alternative (less frills/less expensive) to the TN60A. I am asking myself the same questions. I have the typical horse barn, hay barn, cattle corals, arena, and other places where tight and nimble turning is appreciated. I also have some land under tillage where an ag tractor would make life so much easier. Either way I need 4WD with a front end loader for sure. So the delimma lies in the question, can the higher end of the compact tractors...the 55DA fit the bill or do I look at the lower end of the ag tractors? I place a high value on price as I am not getting rich part-time farming which keeps me somewhat steered away from the TC55A. Hope you catch my message and can respond. Also, have you priced any of these tractors? I have noted approximate 4WD prices with front end loader as follows: TN60A $30,000; TT60A $23,000; TC55DA $27,000.

I've had 2 TN's, my current one is a TN75D and a 2120. The TC48/55 share the same chassis with the 2120, they just have more power. I've had the 2120 since 1987 and the TN since 2001. Only reason I mention the time is because I have lots of use on both platforms. They are quite different in terms of wheelbase and lift capacity. The 2120 is much more nimble, but the TN can sure lift, push and pull more. Personally I like having both. ;)
If I could only have one, I'd probably go with the TC55.

Steve MC,
Maybe I can offer some help here. You have a bit of a mix for use of the machine. Let me start by saying that TC55Da would do the work but I do not feel it is heavy enough for tillage. The TN60 is a nice tractor but you will get more benefit dollar for doller from the the new TT series. There is also news I will share with you, there is a new model coming out later this year that will be the TC55DA size but will have 60HP! The TC48 is going away. So many choices.....hard to decide.
Based on your budget, overall horse power needs, physical size, weight, and overall value, the TT60A with 620TL loader is the way to go. Its a 3 Cylinder non-turbo, 47 PTO HP, 8x2 Trans, 2954 lb 3PH Lift, 10.8 gpm flow, seperate 8.5 gpm steering pump (great for loader work), no standard rear remotes, and standard 16.9x28 rubber. The 620TL loader lifts 2,201 lbs 9' 5" high. The tractor, loader with 72" pin on bucket, 1 rear remote, and calcium loaded rears lists out at $24,232! Thats about $8,300 LESS than the TC55DA configured the same!

Sure you will give up some creature comforts, but hey, your not driving it to work, right? :) Financing right now in NY is 5.9% for 48 months all the way up to 7.25% for 96 months! If you found a non-"A" prior series, you can get 4.5% for 72 months! As an example, a current TN60A with loader as mentioned above, financed for 60 months at 5.9% with 10% down, no tax, would be around $423/ mo.

Hope this helps you some.

Regards,
Larry

Steve-

I went through the same decision process about six months ago, and I see Brian's posted a link to his own comparison. Here are a couple facts I fould useful that you may want to consider:

1) The TC and TN series have fully synchronized transmissions. Prior to this, I owned a non-synchro 3415, and I would never again purchase a tractor that size or larger without synchronized gears.

2) The TN60A-TN75A are built on a much heavier frame, and the fully loaded TN60A TLB is almost a full ton heavier than a comparable TC55DA. If you were to ever look at the strength of the transmission tunnel structure, it's readily apparent that the TC55DA would not be the choice for continuous heavy duty.

3) If you check the Nebraska tests, the 3-cyl non-turbo TN60A is more fuel efficient than the 4-cyl non-turbo TC55DA. Operating cost is important to me, and that fact was both surprising and what tipped the scale to get me to trade and buy.

4) I would advise you, in the strongest terms, to avoid the TL series of loaders. The comparable Rhino/Alamo-SMC made-models are much better built and of significantly greater lift capacity.

5) If you're ever thinking resale, then I'd respectfully disagree with Larry up at Niagara and assert that the TN or TC series will depreciate significantly less quickly than either the TT or TDD tractors. You're not driving it to work, but you'd also rather not have to feed the horse before you plow, too :)

6) At the end of the day, you get what you pay for, and it's also nice not to be tractor-poor. I'd be happy to recommend to you another great dealer if you're looking for prices and service; I received a good (the best!) price there and have been most satisfied with both the purchase and the service after the sale.

Hope this helps,
Larry-On-The-Hilltop
