Or, What you won't miss unless you've ever tried something different. I'm talking about the suspension on the seats of more expensive tractors.

You wouldn't believe the difference between seats on the 4310 and our 5420. I guess to keep the price down on the 4x10 series, the seat suspension didn't get it's fair share. Our fields are fairly rough especially when I try to mow at 6-8 mph or so. Whereas the 5420's seat seems to have about 4" of smooth travel, the 4310's seat just seems to have a cheap grease shock underneath it. You would never know it until you've had the opportunity to compare. I can spend twice the time in the 5420 seat without tiring ( and get 4 times as much work done). Another factor is the much bigger diameter tires which "cross over" bumps that my 4310 wheels fall into.

Does anyone know if a better seat suspension system can be had for a reasonable price?
Between hot feet and sore rumps, I wonder why I still like it so much???

I would say you are out of luck. I thought my 4300 had a lot more comfortable seat than the new 4310's which have that hard, wide seat. Maybe try a JD Z-track seat or the new seat from the X series special edition. Those are really nice with arm rests.

TSC has a nice suspension seat for a reasonable price.

I can't find picture, but it is about $100. They have suspension and wrap around arm rests. Go to Carter and Carters site. Mark Carter is a member here and has the same seat for $65 plus shipping. Carter and Carter He also shows the picture and a dimension page.

Thanks,
I checked out the site. It looks like it's too tall for my 2210. I've got to make a trip up to my JD dealer this week, I'm going to inquire about any "leftover" X series suspensions that may be available from customers who upgraded theirs.

Someone had looked up the part for the 990 which used to come with a suspention seat and doesnt any more, and it was around $650 for the part. That isn't the same seat though, the 990 one is black. I'm sure glad I got mine when they still had them.

My dealer told me (strongly suggested!!) that when I'm sent the survey from JD for buying my 990, that I should mention how unhappy I am with the seat. He said that he knows of times when JD has resolved problems such as this in the past, because they don't want to loose anyone to another brand. I let everyone know how it works out.

I would like to hear what Deere says. When I got mt first tractor a John Deere 790 4 1/2 years back it had a bad rattle in the trans and Deere or my dealer did not know what to do besides fill the roll bar with foam. Nobody could fix it. Deere never did anything for me. But I am still a pretty proud Deere owner none the less with the 990 and the 970.
