Differece between Ford 340, 340A and 340B

I seem to remember reading a question somewhere in this forum concerning the difference between a Ford 340, 340A and 340B. There was only one response which left the question unanswered plus the question was poste:confused3:d in 2010
We just bought a 1985 Ford 340B for $1500 from a college maintenance group. It came with a Gannon box scrapper without the shanks and their keepers. Someone ran a tree branch into the radiator which caused it to connect with the fan near the top of the radiator. Other than that, it runs great (the radiator leak was slow; so we tried it out scrapping a dirt road). For the price, we couldn稚 pass it up. I have the old radiator out, and am now looking for a replacement which brings me to the question: Just what is the difference between the 340, 340A and 340B? Are the parts interchangeable? :confused3:

If it has a power shuttle transmission:
(3/79-9/81) 340 was non-synchro with a blocker valve on the shuttle that prevented shifting F/R over 1200 rpm.
(10/81-5/85) 340A was partial synchro (3-4, 4-3) with a hydraulic modulation valve instead of the blocker which allowed F/R shifting without the transmission making a harsh transition. Clutch switch also was added.
(6/85-11/88) 340B was fully synchronized, otherwise similar to 340A. 4WD option.

Thanks for the info, TractorTech! I have been putting around on our little 9N, and plopping myself in the 340B is, for me, a whole new world.
