My 4 cyl mitsubishi blew a seal in the hydraulic pump and pumped a gallon of fluid into the motor.
It immediately started smoking.
I drained the oil and replaced it with the correct amount of sae 40.
And I disconnected the pump.
I've ran it about 20 minutes and its still smoking {white I think}
Any suggestions on how to get it to stop smoking?
Thanks :)

If you know more UTF is not getting into the engine oil now it would seem about all you can do is to use it.

Keep us updated.

Perhaps you got very lucky in this situation.
You should get familiar with a condition called Diesel Run a Way, and have a strategy to stop the engine before it rev's itself to death.

Diesels can start burning many different fluids and because they are getting that fuel by means outside your control, you cannot stop the engine.

Insane Runaway Diesel - YouTube

Modern tractors have had incidents were the crankcase ventilation systems froze up, the pressure in the crankcase built up forcing hot crankcase oil up the turbo drain line.

The turbo happily sent it into the engine and the rest is bad news.

The best way is a CO2 fire extinguisher directed at the air intake as CO2 will not support combustion.

Large tanker trucks carrying gasoline have had run a ways from inhaling the gas fumes given off as their load is dumped. Often a truck tractor in tanker service will have a manual butterfly air cut off so no air going into the engine it stops .

As for your current condition, likely the muffler is full of stuff which should evaporate over time and use.

Hi.
Thanks for the info.
Guess I'll put a new pump on it and run it and hope it clears up.

I am familiar with run away. I seen one do this when I was in school. It was an engine the students take apart and put together over and over again. I remember it was quite a task for the teacher to get it shut down with no way to put any load on it. He did manage to get it shut down by covering the air intake but it ran for a while even with the air shut off. I'm glad someone mentioned this so I can be prepared. I've been out of school for 40 years, and away from diesels for about 35. If it had ran away I was not prepared. It could have blown before I thought to shut off the air. I do have lots of trees I could run into but thats probably not the best thing for the transmission and its likely it would have spun the tires till they were free the spin with no problem.
Thanks again!

Instead of buying a new pump, take it to a diesel shop.. they can repair most pumps for a fraction of the cost of a new one

Most pools have a shallow end and a deep end:)

I just bought a set of seals and gaskets to rebuild the Simms injector pump on our 1966 Ford 3000 for $50 to have just in case we need it some day since the pump is 51 years old. We just replaced the lift pump and that cost $32. My son just started to Diesel College this Fall so this old diesel is giving him some after hours schooling. :)
