So my 50 hour is a little ways off but still, I am a keener and I have been researching and shopping.
Canadian tire is about one of the best chains in Canada for automotive stuff. I was in there tonite and they have a section marked "diesel oils" and another marked "synthetics".
This is on sale in the synthetics section: http://m.canadiantire.ca/mt/www.can...bil+1+Synthetic+Motor+Oil,+4.4L.jsp?locale=en

It's a mobile 1 synthetic 10w30. Says nothing on the bottle about being for diesel engines. So i am wondering if it is meant only for cars? BTW, My Kioti manual calls out 10w30 or 10w40.

Thanks guys.

i am not an expert on oil classification, but here is how i remember it. most gasoline engine oils have a "S" classification, such as SJ, SL, SM, and so on. the second letter means it covers all preceding letters. think of "S" for spark, used to fire gas engines. diesel engine oils have a "C" classification, such as CE, CF, CG, and so on. think of "C" meaning compression which is how diesel engines fire under compression. so if the mobil oil has ratings for "C" then it can be used for diesel oil. check your owners manuel for the correct second letter classification.

Check the rating on the back of the bottle, should start with a C to be diesel rated. If you look up, waaaay, (and I'll call Rusty... :) ) You will see Red Line 10W30 DIESEL oil, top shelf. Kinda pricey, but it is the only 10W30 I have seen on the shelf. Amsoil is the only other.

The little white bottle is what you are looking for. CF diesel rated.

Red Line Synthetic Oil - Motor Oil - 10W30 Motor Oil

Bradford CT carries it, so I imagine it would be standard in all CT stores??

Good luck.

There is a lot more to oil than SAE viscosity.

There are two general API service classes, S for spark ignition, and C for compression ignition. You definitely need a C class oil in diesel. You should check your manual again to identify the service class as these are followed by a letter, such as CH for example. Also learn to identify the API seal on the oil containers.

A quick search here should lead you to several threads with lots of good oil info.

Thanks guys. You saved me from making a big mistake!!!
I found only one 10w30 in the diesel section and it was the dyno house brand. I'm really set on synthetic. To me, the cost difference between dyno and synthetic is a drop in the bucket and it makes me feel better. :)
Here is a pic of my manual. I see it says cc or cd. I will look for that on the bottles.
