I am using Diesel Kleen as a basic addtive. But, as winter arrives with temps below 32 deg F, should I add an anti-gel product to those same containers?

Cheers,
Mike

Adding an anti-gel when temperatures drop can never hurt. I usually add a little every time I get fuel.

I use Power Service and mix using the directions on the bottle. I've never had any issues with my fuel down to -45F.

As I undeerstand it, the silver bottle, Diesel Kleen, aids in the prevention of fungal growth of the stored fuel at summertime temps...and has a Cetane Boost. But it has no function as an anti-gel additive for winter use here in Kansas. Winter temps can go down to below zero. Some TBN members note that stored diesel can develop some serious fungal growth which messes up the engine.

Actually I have used Power Service (white bottle) for over ten years without summer fungal growth or winter gel problems. However, of recent, I have been storing more diesel than usual and adding the Diesel Kleen (silver bottle)...and just thinking ahead to winter.

Thanks,
Mike

The Power Service biocide I use comes in a white bottle with a black cap and has a MSDS warning label affixed to it and costs about 35 bucks a pint. No matter what 'elixir' you use and no matter what it says is the contents, if there is no MSDS required by law label attached to it, it does not contain a biocide. Don't care what the claims on the bottle are. No MSDS required label, no biocide, Real simple.

Well, "Thank You"..

The product "Diesel Kleen" from Power Service makes no claim on the label to have a biocide ingredient. (where did I get that??) It's claim is as a Cetane Booster and injector cleaner. Thus it has no value in preventing microbial growth in stored diesel fuel. So, for my purposes, the Power Service "Diesel Fuel Supplement" (white bottle) that has the Cetane Booster and antigel is the way to go year around.

As for storage problems........guess I 'll have to by another product to address that problem.... Hum-m-m

Now I gotta add (for sure) an antigel to those containers that have just Diesel Kleen for winter purposes. Guess I'll use up my "Howes" for that when winter comes.

Cheers,
Mike

The fuel at the station is typically already treated to match your climate.
