- International 1066 Full sized JCB Loader/Backhoe and a John Deere 430 to mow with
I've got this 430. Essentially, runs like a top. Old battery so needs jumped every now & then if it's been sitting.
Cut yard say, 2-ish weeks ago and all is well. Drove it to it's parking space and turned off. Other day, jumped on to cut lawn. Nothing. No problem, it's got a weak battery so pull wife's car alongside to jump start.
Long story short, the engine (with wife's car assist) will crank like a bandit BUT, doesn't start. It has NEVER done this. Not noticing any (hardly any as there might have been a wisp) smoke coming from exhaust, I wondered if it was getting fuel.
Cracked one, then finally cracked all the injector lines open to crank over. Here's where my ignorance is going to get me. My OTHER diesel toys are significantly larger than this mower. I see fuel squirt out of those but, they're larger engines.
I DID see some (what I'll call spittle) coming out of the injector but what I don't know is, is that 'spittle' on ratio, similar to what the IH or JCB might do, or is it indeed, spittle and it's not getting enough fuel to do anything. (just how much fuel would an engine like this spit out if you crack the injectors open)
I'm guessing spitting drops out isn't enough and if this is accurate, I'm wondering if I should look at the pump. If drops spitting out IS enough, then maybe look elsewhere (but where)...
There is ZERO sputter, zero backfire, (essentially) zero smoke, just the little engine being buzzed around by the starter.
Any thoughts?
To reiterate, roughly 2-ish weeks ago, it started and ran like a bandit until I turned it off and walked away. Absolutely zero noticiable issues while using it.
Fortunately I have a Woods 6' finish mower so I pulled that out of the woods (no pun intended) and got things cut with it but I rather use the 430!
