so i have a s10 blazer that is primarily farm vehicle. it was getting near E, and didn't feel like going to town and filling it up, so i grabbed a couple 5 gallon cans and filled it up.
needless to say, i wasn't paying attention, and i have 1 can cleary marked "diesel" on it. and ended up dumping that into the gas tank along with a regular 5 gallon can of gas into the tank.
oh she started up like normal, but within a minute, that turned out to a "Clug clug clug" puttering along engine.
once i realized what i did, only took a couple minutes, i shut vehicle down. more like i was stuck on a hill, and couldn't get enough rpms / power to get up the hill.
==============
trying to shove a hose down into the tank to siphon diesel out was a no go.
i figure i would have to drop the tank.
my cousein aka family gear head. showed up, and i ask him if it was possible to unhook fuel line some were near the engine, it was possible but would take dismantling a good amount of stuff to get a hose on....
he then jacked up the blazer on one side, and removed the "fuel filter" just below the driver side door.
i had a old fuel pump that i used to put fluid in rear tires of tractors, so grabbed hose and pipe clamps and connected it to the line coming from the tank, and it would not suck the fuel out. (fuel pump inside the tank was causing issues and more likely some sort of check valve or like)
so he said, lets pull the pump off that i had, and simply turn the key, so starter on vehicle just started to turn and then back the key off quickly, so the fuel pump in the tank would kick on for a couple seconds, this seemed to work. but was slow and running battery dead.
somewere along the lines he noted, hooking pump i had, and run a hose into a 5 gallon gas can, and run to the line that ran up to the fuel injectors. the pump i had simply didn't provide enough "pressure" and engine would only turn over if some starter fluid was sprayed into the carb area. but engine would not stay running.
by this time, i had the battery charger hooked up the s10 blazer battery, set to 55 amp fast charge / starting mode. (120, 55,20,2 amp) choices. the project already was dragging out to be a couple hours long. he had to go some place. so after he left, i just kept turning the key on/off for fuel pump in tank to turn on for a couple seconds at a time. after some time finally got it all the way down to point i was pumping air bubbles and bad fuel in the tank. i dumped about 1 to 2 more gallons of gas into the tank, and pumped that out. with turning key on/off to get fuel pump to turn on for a couple seconds. hooked up old fuel filter, and engine cranked right on over and developed RPMs like it should, though i could tell it had the diesel glug glug glug coming from tail pipe, and it didn't have the fuel power it should just yet (to be expected).
with approx 3 to 5 gallons of gas in it after i reinstalled old fuel filter, i ran till she was almost on fumes, then put a full tank of good gas in it. and after about 30 minutes sounds like she is suppose to. with full power back in her.
i have a new fuel filter, that will be putting on, here shortly. when i got some cash saved up, will let someone else install new plugs in it. i am not afraid to work on tractor, but will pay someone else to deal with vehicles. to much bending upside down and crawling for this old body to take.
===================
i guess moral of the story.... instead of dropping the gas tank, i just used the fuel pump that was in the tank to pump the tank down from were the fuel filter was at, i just wish there was a way to easily splice into the wiring going to the fuel pump, so i could by pass the ignition. temporarily with direct hook up to battery.
